They wed during Dr. Coops first year at Cornell Medical School.Elizabeth Flanagan Koop died in 2007. Dr. Koop married Cora Hogue in 2010. In addition to his wife, of Hanover, Dr. Koop leaves two sons, Allen and Norman; a daughter, Elizabeth Thompson; and eight grandchildren.

He got his medical degree from Cornell Medical College. While at Dartmouth, he met Elizabeth Flanagan, a Vassar student, and they married in 1938.
In 1938, Koop married Elizabeth Flanagan, the daughter of a Connecticut doctor. They had four children Allen, Norman, David and Elizabeth. David, their youngest son, was killed in a mountain-climbing accident when he was 20.
