Abstract:
A capillary pump for a fragrance dispenser has a reservoir for holding fragrance oil. The reservoir is capped with a silicone rubber cap with a vapor port therein for emitting vaporized fragrance oil. A capillary tube has its bottom end extending to the bottom of the reservoir where capillary action draws fragrance oil up into the capillary tube. A heating element inside the capillary tube vaporizes fluid drawn into the tube. Electrical leads for the heating element exit through the silicone rubber cap. The cap, capillary tube and heating element form a unit for insertion of the capillary tube and heating element into the reservoir.
A home fragrance dispenser has a reservoir for holding fragrance oil. The cap, capillary tube and heating element form a unit for insertion into the reservoir, and the combined unit is a capillary pump. A fan in the dispenser cabinet forces fragrant vapor out into the surrounding. A selector dial on the front of the cabinet permits selection of one of several fragrances.

Abstract:
A portion a the machine which the operator regularly engages with his or her hands has incorporated therein a plurality of passageways (14) through which a vacuum is applied to draw vapor which is emitted by the hands of the individual. Vapor from the individual's hands is drawn through a sampling apparatus. The sampling apparatus contains an electrical coil (32, 36, 42, 46) which is coated with a composite metal-nonmetal catalytic substance which causes ethanol to oxidize at the coil. When ethanol-containing vapor passes over the coil, oxidation at the coil causes an electrical charge to build up on the coil. The charge build-up is detected and processed in a discriminating type of electrical circuit which incorporates a wheatstone bridge or a constant-current loop. The resulting signal is further processed then ultimately used to estimate the alcohol content of the individual.
A sensualizer or sense-simile machine reproduces smells and flavors using a cylinder housing smell and flavor cartridges. A texture chamber replicates textures that stimulate the sense of touch through the fingers. Environmental conditions are replicated in a weather chamber. The machine can be activated from a remote location over a standard telephone line or accessed through a computer over a modem. With a computer or other input device, simulations and reproductions can be done locally.
System For Inhibiting Use Of A Hand-Operated Machine By An Impaired Individual Through Detection Of Toxins In The Individual
A system for inhibiting use of a hand-operated machine by an impaired individual through detection of toxins in the individual has affixed to a portion of the machine which the operator regularly engages with his or her hands a porous membrane (5) impregnated with a substance (2) which reacts with a toxin by-product of an impairing substances such as alcohol, and another substance which causes the combined toxin and toxin-reacting substance to exhibit a color change. The system further contains a means (26) for detecting the color change in the membrane (5) and then causing a signal (14) to be displayed to the operator. Upon detection of the toxin-producing substance the system may also interrupt operation of the machine.
Sense-Simile Transmission Machine Having A Rotating Cylinder With Cartridges For Dispensing Substances Onto A Reciprocating Carrier
A sensualizer or sense-simile machine reproduces smells and flavors using a cylinder housing smell and flavor cartridges. Selected cartridges deposit predetermined amounts of sense substances onto a carrier to reproduce the desired smell or flavor. The cylinder rotates to bring rows of cartridges to a position for depositing the substances onto the carrier. The carrier moves back and forth along a path under the row of cartridges and stops momentarily under the cartridges selected to reproduce the particular smell or flavor. An air blast disperses the substances into a tube for delivery to a location where the senses can be aroused. The machine can be activated from a remote location over a standard telephone line or accessed through a computer over a modem. With a computer or other input device, simulations and reproductions can be done locally.
A sense-simile sampler delivers a sample fragrance in response to receiving an external signal, preferably via the internet. The sampler has a fragrance reservoir attached to a cylinder via a tube. A piston plunger reciprocates in the cylinder to expel the fragrance. A one-way valve controls flow of fragrance from the reservoir into the cylinder. The piston plunger is solenoid operated via signals from an internet appliance.
