Abstract:

A continuous casting and packaging mechanism in which a continuous body web of plastic material is fed to a station where molds are formed in the continuous body web. Casting material is extruded to the body web. A continuous cover web of plastic material is fed to overlie the body web. The cover web and the body web are sealed together to form a laminate. The superimposed webs are cured and molds are then remove from the webs. The mechanism may also be provided with a film heater to heat the body web, a mold release applicator to deposit a release the molds and mechanisms to place inserts into the molds as well as other mechanisms which may be used with the machine to continuously cast molds.

Abstract:

A method and apparatus are described for automatically checking envelopes for objects which would interere with an automatic postal mail sorting operation. The envelopes are moved between inflated rollers and changes in the roller pressures caused by objectionable objects in the envelopes are detected to control an envelope diversion gate.

Abstract:

A disposable, single-use, medication charged syringe is described wherein the syringe body is formed with a tubular glass barrel having a steel needle mounted on the barrel by means of a tubular glass bead. The beading and barrel are initially made from common stock of right circular hollow cylindrical tubes. The syringe body is formed by a number of steps including a barrel flaring operation and a needle attaching operation in which the needle is first sealed to the glass tubular bead before the glass bead is sealed to the glass barrel. Identification of the syringe and the particular unit dose therein is provided by a flared colored plastic gripping sleeve which is slipped over the glass barrel.
