Abstract:

The invention is directed to reusable, clip-type oximetry sensors that comprise opposing top and bottom members. In one aspect, the sensor includes a resilient spring member interposed between the top and bottom members to provide a closing force, wherein the resilient spring member comprises tensile and compressive portions. That is, upon positioning a patient appendage in the sensor different portions of the resilient spring member are in tension and in compression so as to combinatively provide an enhanced closing force utilized to secure the patient appendage between the top and bottom members. The resilient spring member may be of a molded, monolithic construction, comprising an elastomeric material. In another aspect, the inventive sensor includes cushions interconnected to the top and bottom members via snap-fit engagement. Abstract:

A transceiver module has an interface surface and is received within a cage. The cage has a cage latch that retains the transceiver module. The transceiver module has a ramp, an actuator and a release handle. The ramp is located on the interface surface of the transceiver module and has a ramp surface that slopes away from the interface surface of the transceiver module and toward the cage latch. The actuator is adjacent the interface surface of the transceiver module and is configured to be movable on the ramp surface. The release handle is mounted on the transceiver module and is coupled to the actuator. Rotating the release handle in a first direction causes the actuator to move along the ramp surface toward the cage latch thereby moving the cage latch away from the interface surface. Rotating the release handle in a second direction causes the actuator to move along the ramp surface toward the interface surface and away from the cage latch.

The mechanism of the UV light-induced reaction between the indole moiety of tryptophan and chloroform, and the structure of the modified tryptophan and polypeptides including such modified tryptophan residues. The excited indole moiety, which is formed upon UV light irradiation, emits a solvated electron which initiates a series of events that yield fluorescent derivatives that have CHO group covalently bound to the indole moiety. These derivatives are herein referred to as formyltryptophan, and are relatively stable. Similar reactions are observed when 5-hydroxytryptophan, 5-fluorotryptophan, or N-methylindolacetate are used in place of tryptophan, or when other haloalkanes, such as trichloracetic acid, trichlorethanol, trichlorethane, bromoform, and iodoactetate are used in place of chloroform. The derivatives can be used in a variety of applications in fluorescence spectroscopy, and for nuclear magnetic resonance, X-ray crystallography, infra-red spectroscopy, circular dicroism and mass spectroscopy. Additionally, the UV light-induced reaction between the indole moiety of tryptophan and haloalkanes can be used to prepare derivatives of tryptophan for chemical cross-linking studies of proteins and peptides.

Abstract:

By monitoring pressure transients in a liquid within a liquid distribution system using only a single sensor, events such as the opening and closing of valves at specific fixtures are readily detected. The sensor, which can readily be coupled to a faucet bib, transmits an output signal to a computing device. Each such event can be identified by the device based by comparing characteristic features of the pressure transient waveform with previously observed characteristic features for events in the system. These characteristic features, which can include the varying pressure, derivative, and real Cepstrum of the pressure transient waveform, can be used to select a specific fixture where a valve open or close event has occurred. Flow to each fixture and leaks in the system can also be determined from the pressure transient signal. A second sensor disposed at a point disparate from the first sensor provides further event information.
