Abstract:

There is disclosed an accommodating intraocular lens for implantation in an eye having an optical axis. The lens comprises an anterior portion which in turn comprises an anterior viewing element and an anterior biasing element. The lens further comprises a posterior portion which in turn comprises a posterior viewing element in spaced relationship to the anterior viewing element and a posterior biasing element. The anterior portion and posterior portion meet at first and second apices of the intraocular lens. The anterior portion and the posterior portion and/or the apices are responsive to force thereon to cause the separation between the viewing elements to change. Additional embodiments and methods are also disclosed.

Abstract:

Methods, systems, and apparatuses for nanomaterial-enhanced platelet binding and hemostatic medical devices are provided. Hemostatic materials and structures are provided that induce platelet binding, including platelet binding and the coagulation of blood at a wound/opening caused by trauma, a surgical procedure, ulceration, or other cause. Example embodiments include platelet binding devices, hemostatic bandages, hemostatic plugs, and hemostatic formulations. The hemostatic materials and structures may incorporate nanostructures and/or further hemostatic elements such as polymers, silicon nanofibers, silicon dioxide nanofibers, and/or glass beads into a highly absorbent, gelling scaffold. The hemostatic materials and structures may be resorbable.

Abstract:

A method and apparatus is described for treating a target body surface using a radiation applicator. The radiation applicator includes a radiation source in combination with a delivery applicator. The applicator has a low profile enable the patient to apply the applicator to a target area underneath, for example, clothing. The applicator can be configured to use one or more radiation sources to apply one or more types of radiation for one or more periods of time. Additionally, the applicator can be configured with a feedback loop to determine when a therapeutically desirable amount of radiation has been delivered.
