Abstract:
Disclosed are compositions and processes for preparing polymeric materials having polymerizable units derived from at least one Cto Calkyl (meth)acrylate monomer, and at least one chain branching unit. The presence of the chain branching unit suprisingly results in the polymeric composition having non-gelled polymer chains. The polymeric compositions are useful as additives for improving the melt strength of thermoplastic resins.

Abstract:
Compositions and processes for preparing extrudable powder blends containing at least one vinyl chloride resin and a cellulosic material are provided. More specifically, compositions and processes for preparing extrudable free-flowing powder blends containing PVC and wood flour (WF) are also provided for preparing foamed or nonfoamed extrudates. The processes provided herein incorporate components which may contain up to a total of 25 weight percent water. Processes for preparing foamed extrudates are also provided wherein a cooling fluid is used to increase the expansion ratio of the foam. Finally provided are composites having an extrudable thermoplastic substrate and at least one capstock layer disposed thereon containing a PVC/WF composition.

Abstract:
Aqueous-form additive systems, and methods of blending the same with a matrix resin, are disclosed whereby acrylic-based impact modifier compositions, butadiene-based impact modifier compositions and acrylic-based processing aids are used in aqueous form without the need for isolation to the traditional powder-form. The aqueous additive systems of the present invention provide a means for the design of novel additive compositions. The aqueous additive systems of the present invention also provide a great degree of flexibility in preparation of matrix resin blends and formulations. Additionally, the aqueous additive systems of the present invention allow for the reduced cost of manufacturing additives and reduced cost in blending matrix resin formulations.

Plastics Additives: Improved Process, Products, And Articles Containing Same
Robert Smith - Harleysville PA, US Katherine Rice - Glenside PA, US Kirk Moyer - Yardley PA, US Richard Ketz - Princeton NJ, US Eugene Dougherty - Langhorne PA, US Patricia Lesko - Ottsville PA, US
An improved process for preparing an aqueous dispersion of plastics additive polymer particles using emulsion polymerization of one or more ethylenically unsaturated monomers in an aqueous medium in the presence of a free radical redox initiator system is described. The free radical redox initiator system uses an oxidizing agent, a reducing agent, and a combination of metal ion species. The plastics additive polymer particles are useful as processing aids and impact modifiers in PVC articles.
