A connection for threaded pipes and other tubular sections including a gasket for interposition between a first and an opposing second interface surface of the connection. The gasket includes a retainer and a generally annular seal element received in a groove formed into at least one side of the retainer. Such retainer side further is formed as having one or more channels extending extend radially through the groove and the inner or outer perimeter of the retainer. Each such channel defines a vent for relieving hydrostatic fluid pressure as the gasket is compressed between the interface surfaces.

Abstract:
A modified API Buttress threaded casing connection is disclosed for use in drilling oil and gas wells in lieu of using conventional drill pipe. The coupling threads only are multiple tapered yet can be mated with standard API Buttress pin threads having a single taper. The coupling is also shortened to permit abutment of the mating pins at the center of the coupling and can be further enhanced with an integral, sacrificial wear sleeve on one end of the coupling.

Abstract:
An improved coupling for joining together tubular sections is disclosed. The coupling includes a water exclusion seal which is a pressure energized elastomeric seal positioned in a groove near each end of the coupling to form a radial seal between the unthreaded area at each end of the coupling and the unthreaded cylindrical area adjacent each end of the tubular section. A thread compound relief groove adjacent each seal groove has sufficient volume for thread compound that is squeezed from the threads during or after make-up.

Abstract:
Method of sealing one or more threaded connections between ends of a pair of tubular members configured to be rotatably threadably engageable. One of the members as an externally-threaded portion, with the other one having an internally-threaded portion. One of the threaded portions has a radial groove formed therein which is configured to receive a seal ring for sealing the connection. The groove of the one portion defines a void with the other portion, with the seal ring being compressed into the void by the engagement of the threaded ends of the members. The method involves determining a deformed axial cross-sectional geometries of the ends, mathematically revolving the deformed axial cross-sectional geometries to generate a corresponding solid of revolution, calculating the volume of the void by subtracting the open of the solid volumes from the other, and sizing the seal ring to overfill the void by a specified amount.

Abstract:
A fluid assembly comprising a first part () and a second part () which interact by relative linear movement therebetween. A groove () extends around the circumference of the cylindrical interacting surface () of the first part () and a seal () is situated within the groove (). The seal () has a radial face () which converts from a concave profile to a flat profile flush with the groove's root side () upon interface with the interacting surface () of the second part (). The seal () also has axial faces () which each assume a more pronounced concave profile upon such interfacing, the concave profiles forming cavities () which, when filled with fluid, urge the radial seal face () and radial seal face () towards the groove's root side () and the interacting surface () of the second part ().
Various clamps for connecting one tubular member to another, methods of using and making such clamps are disclosed. In one aspect a clamp for coupling a first tubular member to a second tubular member is provided. The clamp includes a first clamp half and a second clamp half engageable with the first clamp half. The first and second clamp halves define a first through bore to accommodate the first tubular member and a second through bore to accommodate the second tubular member. A strap is adapted to circumscribe at least a portion of and bring into engagement the first and second clamp halves. The clamp is buoyant in water.

Abstract:
A modified API Buttress threaded casing connection for use in oil and gas wells incorporates an integral Reduced Drag (RD) feature that comprises a tapered or rounded leading edge. In certain embodiments, both ends of the coupling incorporate the integral Reduced Drag (RD) feature that comprises a tapered or rounded leading edge to facilitate removal of the casing from a wellbore.
