Abstract:
A method and apparatus for operating a power distribution system circuit breaker is provided. The circuit breaker includes an associated node electronics unit wherein a node electronics unit redundancy requirement is predetermined. The method includes monitoring electrical system parameters associated with the circuit breaker with the node electronics unit, communicating the electrical system parameters over a digital network to at least one central control processing unit, receiving commands and actions from the at least one central control processing unit over the digital network, determining circuit breaker actuation commands based at least partially on the received commands and actions, and operating the circuit breaker based on the circuit breaker actuation commands.

Abstract:
A protection system for a power distribution system is provided. The protection system includes a central computer, a plurality of data modules, and a data network. The data modules are each in communication with a different circuit breaker of the power distribution system. The data network communicates between the central computer and the plurality of data modules. The central computer sends an instruction to the plurality of data modules over the data network to aid in synchronization of sampling of a power condition at the plurality of data modules.
Method And Apparatus For Digital Automatic Frequency Control Of Chirped Oscillator

Abstract:
The average frequency and sweep rate of a chirped oscillator are automatically digitally controlled for correction of long term drift. During each of successive swept-frequency chirps, the swept frequency output of a voltage-controlled oscillator is counted and the overflow time of the counter is utilized to control the average frequency. A second counter counts the chirp frequency in a first direction during a first preset period at the beginning of each chirp and counts the chirp frequency in a second and opposite direction during an identical preset period later in the chirp, to provide an underflow transition related to the slope of the chirped frequency signal. Digital circuitry for synthesis of the chirped oscillator frequency ramp signal, and for correction of the average frequency and slope thereof responsive to the first and second counter transitions, is utilized.

US Classification:

Abstract:
A method and apparatus for implementing a spread spectrum communication system of the "transmitted reference" type provides both multipath and interference protection with little complexity. Need for a local reference is avoided by transmitting a reference that the receiver can use to perform despreading. In general, the transmitted reference system sends both a message signal and a reference signal to the receiver. The message signal contains the information to be communicated, which has been spread through multiplication with a wide band "spreading waveform". The reference signal consists of the spreading waveform itself which the receiver call use to despread the message signal and recover the information.
Dc-Free Run Length Constrained Line Coding With Channel Gain

International Classification:

US Classification:
375265, 37524022, 375253
Abstract:
A dc-free coding scheme that also provides channel gain employs a code that is based on an alphabet of two and comprises a list of N-dimensional vectors, where N is even, with a maximum run of two symbols. From this list, all vectors which begin or end in two identical symbols are eliminated. This avoids runs of longer than two consecutive symbols when vectors are concatenated. With this scheme, if the baseband transmission of a â+â is realized with positive voltage V and transmission of a â-â is realized with a negative voltage -V, then any concatenation of symbols is dc-free. Improved coding gain is realized by mapping modulated signals onto convolutional code trellises.
