Abstract:
Methods are disclosed for inducing the production of 15-lipoxygenase (15-LO) in animal or human cells comprising monocytes via the administration of Interleukin 13 (IL-13). These methods are effective in therapy of inflammatory conditions responsive to products of 15-LO activity, including 15-s-hydroxyeicoiatetraenoic (15-S-HETE) and Lipoxin A. sub. 4 (LXA. sub. 4). Such administration directs intervention to specific and effectors of inflammation, rather than the current methods of symptomatic treatment.
