Abstract:
An apparatus for determining intraocular pressure includes a transducer assembly containing an applanation tonometer for the determination of a cornea applanation pressure and an ultrasonic pachymeter to determine the thickness of the cornea at the site of applanation. The assembly has a tip end which includes an applanation surface and an ultrasonic coupler surface, and an end cap membrane holder is adapted to fit over the tip end of the transducer assembly and hold a thin film membrane stretched over the applanation and ultrasonic coupler surfaces. The transducer assembly also has a detector for detecting the presence or absence of the end cap membrane holder, the detector may generate a signal to disable movement of the transducer assembly if the end cap is not detected.
Methods And Compositions For Treating Mucosal Inflammation
Disclosed herein are methods for treating mucositis (e.g., -activated mucositis) that involves the direct mucoadministration of an active agent that is antifungal and antibacterial in an amount and for a duration effective to treat mucositis.
A thin, pliable mat to enhance visualization of corneal topography during rastostereography or videokeratoscopy. The mat is approximately 20 microns or less in thickness and constructed from hydrophobic material. In one preferred embodiment, the mat has a pattern etched thereon. In an alternative embodiment, a pattern is projected onto the mat. For rastostereography the pattern is a grid. For videokeratoscopy the pattern is concentric circles. The mat conforms to the surface of the cornea and the pattern is analyzed using conventional technology to determine corneal topography.
Method Of Improving Photorefractive Keratectomy By Increasing Ablation Smoothness
A method of performing photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) wherein the surface smoothness is enhanced. The present invention minimizes the ablation zone dimension including central ablation depth, reducing the need for overcorrection. The present invention reduces regression and scarring (haze) providing enhanced clinical outcomes with faster rehabilitation, greater refractive stability, and improved corneal clarity. Moreover, improved clinical outcomes are achieved by adjusting the initial corneal correction to take into account the effects of regression based upon non-linear predictive formulas which vary with the square of the slope of ablation smoothness (roughness) per micron of ablation depth.
