Abstract:

A palm nailer including a magazine for driving of successive nails without need for reloading, the magazine being incorporated onto the nose of the nailer, and enabling a 360 degree rotation of the magazine about the axis of the nose tool and driver blade. The nailer is adapted with a âDâ shaped driver blade for driving nails with a circular head. The nailer drives each nail with multiple blows of the driver blade while maintaining the nail in the magazine adjacent the nail being driven out of the path of the driver blade until completion of the driving of the operative nail and retraction of the tool from the workpiece into which the nail is driven.

Abstract:

A construction tool and method of use for affixing holding cap washers to roofing paper and building wrap tar paper. The tool is a combination of a fastener-driving gun together with a feeding magazine holding a clip of plastic cap washers to be affixed, and the feed magazine feeds successive cap washers under the nose of the fastener-driving gun so that fasteners, such as nails or staples, can penetrate the cap washer and hold down the roofing paper or building wrap tar paper. As the cap approaches the nose of the gun, the cap feeder flips the cap ninety degrees along an axis transverse to the feed direction. A shortened shuttle is used with a spring arm holding one edge of the leading cap in the magazine and the rearward portion of the shuttle holding the other edge of the leading cap.

A staple or nail gun assembly includes a staple or nail gun, a cap feeding device and a cap having a peripheral rim disposed on its underside, a marginal edge on its upper side adjacent a central portion having the shape of a truncated cone. The staple or nail gun and the cap feeding device are generally disposed at opposite ends of the handle of the staple or nail gun. The cap feeding device includes a base, a cap container and a shuttle, and feeds caps sequentially as they are affixed by the gun. The caps are coaxially stacked by means of a coaxial plastic cord or wire with retaining means at the respective ends or in a tubular container with a flanged end. The caps may also be stacked on a rod or held together by melting.

Abstract:

A fastener applicator is disclosed which uses a rotating ramped cam to drive a staple or other fastener into a workpiece. The ramped cam rotates in a direction substantially parallel to the direction in which the fastener is driven into the workpiece. Optionally, the fastener applicator may also include a portion for holding caps and positioning a cap beneath each fastener before it is driven into the workpiece. A unique use of a sliding linkage allows for the coupling of the cap-positioning portion with the unique new fastener applicator or also with any standard existing fastener applicator.

Abstract:

A binding wire twisting apparatus for tying reinforcing bars. A motor rotates a shaft upon which a member reciprocates from a rearward to a forward position. The apparatus includes opposed fingers with opposed channels for fed binding wire. When in the rearward position, the member drives a wire feeding unit that feeds binding wire though the fingers and around the reinforcing bars. When the leading end of the fed wire impacts an actuator of a four-way valve, a pneumatic cylinder reciprocates the member from the first to the second position, and a cutter cuts the wire. Once in the second position, gripping surfaces entrap and hold the ends of the wire, and the rotating member, while holding the ends of the wire between first and second grip pieces, twists and ties the wire around the reinforcing bars, and a torque-release clutch decouples the motor from the shaft.
