Abstract:

In a system of communication, a sending node sends a message to a receiving node, which NAKs unsuccessful transmissions. The sending node screens the NAKs to determine if they were sent before the receiver could receive previous transmissions of the same data NAKed. One screening technique is based on an estimated round trip time of a message. Another alternate technique looks a flag in the NAK that synchronizes the sender and the receiver.

Abstract:

A communication system selection algorithm (SSA) implemented by a mobile station chooses between available systems to select a system to serve the mobile station. During initialization, the SSA causes the mobile station to scan the environment and compare available communication systems to determine the best system to provide service. After an initial system is chosen, the SSA causes the mobile station to continuously, or at discrete time intervals, scan the environment for available systems, thus allowing for a seamless switch to an available system whenever a handoff is desired. The SSA chooses the best available system based on measurements of each available system and applying preference rules defined by a service provider and/or user of the mobile station.

A mobile wireless terminal is configured to provide an audible alert to the user in the event of its receipt, while the terminal is on a call, of an indication of an imminent or directed handoff to a carrier or network which would charge the user for roaming. Abstract:

A method for detecting the tip plane in digitized 3D ear impressions includes receiving a digitized mesh representation of an undetailed 3D ear impression and a digitized mesh representation of a detailed 3D ear impression, finding faces on the detailed ear impression mesh that are modified with respect to corresponding faces on the undetailed ear impression mesh, forming regions of connected modified faces, eliminating those regions that are not around an ear canal, and creating a tip plane by averaging vertices of those remaining faces in a tip region of the detailed impression to find a mass center point, averaging face normal vectors over all faces in the tip region to find an average face normal, and extending the average face normal from the mass center point to find the intersection on the detailed ear impression.

Abstract:

An object in a hot atmosphere with a temperature greater than 400 F in a gas turbine moves in a 3D space. The movement may include a vibrational movement. The movement includes a rotational movement about an axis and a translational movement along the axis. Images of the object are recorded with a camera, which may be a high-speed camera. The object s provided with a pattern that is tracked in images. Warpings of sub-patches in a reference image of the object are determined to form standard format warped areas. The warpings are applied piece-wise to areas in following images to create corrected images. Standard tracking such as SSD tracking is applied to the piece-wise corrected images to determine a movement of the object. The image correction and object tracking are performed by a processor.

Abstract:

Two adjacent objects with a gap between the objects rotate in a hot atmosphere with a temperature greater than 300 F in a gas turbine. Automatic and accurate contactless measurement of the gap is performed by taking images of the gap. An image, preferably an infra-red image is taken from the gap, a processor extracts the two edges from the image of the gap. The processor also determines a line through the pixels of an edge by applying a Hough transform on the pixels. The edges are substantially parallel. A line substantially perpendicular to the lines is also determined. Using the substantially parallel lines and the line substantially perpendicular to the substantially parallel lines the processor determines a width of the gap.
