Abstract:
Highly active catalysts, suitable for use in hydrogenation and other reactions, are prepared from an alloy of one or more of the Group VIII transition metals with yttrium or a rare earth metal. The alloy is ground to the desired particle size and is thereafter reacted with a gas containing carbon monoxide and hydrogen to form an intimate physical admixture of the Group VIII metal or its corresponding carbide with the oxide of yttrium or the rare earth metal.

Abstract:
Highly active catalysts, suitable for use in hydrogenation and other reactions, are prepared from an alloy of one or more of the Group VIII transition metals with a Group IIA metal, a Group IVB metal, or an actinide. The alloy is ground to the desired particle size and is thereafter reacted with a gas, such as carbon monoxide and hydrogen, to form an intimate physical admixture of the Group VIII metal or its corresponding carbide with the oxide of other metal.

Abstract:
A method for recovering platinum group metals from a catalyst material comprises leaching the material with a cyanide solution at a temperature greater than about 100. degree. C. to form soluble platinum group metal-cyanide complexes in solution. Solids are removed from the resulting pregnant leach solution, and the pregnant leach solution is then heated to a temperature sufficient to decompose the platinum group metal-cyanide complexes and precipitate the platinum group metals.

Abstract:
An alloy of thorium and a Group VIII transition metal is oxidized, for example in air, and subsequently reduced, for example with hydrogen gas, to produce a high surface area catalyst containing thorium oxide and one or more Group VIII transition metals. The catalyst thus produced may be used as such or may be further treated to enhance its activity.

Abstract:
A catalyst for synthesis of methanol is prepared from an alloy of copper with a metal from the rare earth or actinide series or group IVB of the periodic table. The alloy is reacted with a gas having sufficient oxidizing power to oxidize the rare earth, actinide or group IVB metal.

Numerous Westmoreland communities to observe Memorial Day
Mt. Pleasant: A parade will assemble at 10:30 a.m. at Eagle and Main streets, moving to Veteran's Park Memorial Square for a program. Speaker will be the Rev. Gary Atkinson, a military chaplain and veteran of the Air Force and Pennsylvania Air National Guard.
According to the company, the 32-bit chip consumes just nine microamps per megahertz, an impressively low amount even for an eight- or 16-bit chip. Gary Atkinson, ARMs director of embedded applications, says the chip is 40 percent more efficient than its predecessor. This reduction, he says, will
