Abstract:

A method and apparatus in a data processing system for managing distribution of data structures. A first data structure is received including a first version identifier. The version identifier is stored for the first data structure. A second structure is received including a second version identifier. Responsive to receiving a second data structure, a determination is made as to whether the second data structure is a replacement for the first data structure. Responsive to the second data structure being a replacement for the first data structure, a determination is made as to whether the first version identifier is different from the second version identifier. Responsive to a determination that the first version identifier is different from the second version identifier, the first data structure is replaced with the second data structure.

Abstract:

A apparatus and apparatus for compensating for video insertion loss due to transmission over long twisted pair cable lines is presented. Transmission of video over twisted pair cable is advantageous because of its superior cost advantage over coaxial cable. However, twisted pair cables have significant loss characteristics at the higher frequencies (i. e. , broadband) compared to coaxial cables. At a transmitter station, the video signal is amplified in the high frequency region for possible skin effect losses thereby brute forcing the high frequency components to the receiving station. At the receiver station, the video signal is further compensated for diffusion line and skin effect losses. The total skin effect compensation applied in both the transmitter and receiver stations is such that the square root of frequency characteristics of skin effect losses is compensated for. Thus, at the receiving station, the high frequency compensation added at the transmitter to brute force the high frequency components to the receiving station may be removed if found excessive.

Abstract:

A system and method for managing information on a network using an identity index may include a software program stored on a computer-readable medium which is operable to associate one or more users with the information objects that define the user. The software program can maintain a “virtual identity” for each user, the virtual identity comprising a list of information objects (e. g. , accounts) associated with the user and the identities of resources at which the information objects can be found. The list of information objects may include an information object identifier for each information object. The software program may maintain a resource definition for each identified resource. The resource definition may include a set of connection parameters that can be used by the software program to connect to the corresponding resource.

Abstract:

A method, system, apparatus, and computer program product are presented for managing access to resources with a role-based access control model that includes dynamic update functionality using role filters and capability filters. Rather than directly connecting individual users to a role, a role filter is defined for a role. The role filter is evaluated to determine which users should be matched to a given role, and matching users are then automatically associated with the given role. In addition to its role filter, each named role contains a set of capabilities. Each capability contains a set of access conditions and a capability filter. Each access condition has a set of rights. Rather than directly connecting individual resources to a capability, the administrator can define a capability filter for each capability. As target instances are added, deleted, or changed, capability filters are re-evaluated to maintain the appropriate set of relationships.

Abstract:

A system capable of transmitting and receiving high frequency video signals across various lengths of a twisted pair cable while maintaining video quality is presented. The system includes a transmitter and a receiver tandem coupled together over twisted pair cable. Each video component is mixed with a reference signal in the transmitter and driven differentially onto the twisted pair cable. Upon detection of a signal in the twisted pair cable, the receiver adjusts its internal gains until the known characteristic of the reference signal is achieved. The receiver than automatically adjusts the skew & DC offset. Thus, the receiver is able to automatically measure the degradation in video quality and appropriately compensate the video signals for the accumulated degradation caused primarily by the transmission between the transmitter and the receiver. The compensated video may subsequently be provided to a video display device.

Abstract:

A closed loop feedback system is employed in a receiver to automatically compensate the communication signal from twisted pair cables for AC and DC losses. This is accomplished through the use of a reference pulse signal which is sent along with other digital information. At the receiver, the reference pulse signal is restored to its proper level through a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM)-controlled variable compensation amplifier circuit. The received reference signal is compared to a known reference value and the duty cycle of the PWM circuit is adjusted until the proper level reference signal is achieved. Thereafter, the digital signal is extracted. OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) with pilot tones are used to maximize payload while minimizing crosstalk effects. The pilot tones locate the OFDM symbols in time while supplying compensation information concerning the transmission medium.
