Abstract:

Disclosed is a system wherein the compensation for temperature effects on a pressure measurement gauge are accomplished by processing the raw pressure measurement signal from the gauge through an equation to produce a thermally compensated measurement. The equation expresses the thermally compensated pressure determination as a relation between a derivative of temperature and temperature. When the gauge is placed in an oil or gas well, the equation is used to obtain a correction for the measured pressure from the temperature measured adjacent to the pressure gauge.

Abstract:

The invention provides a system for securing the access of a remote computer terminal (130) to a centrally located host computer (300). The system includes a first security circuit (200) interconnected with a calling telephone (100), a calling modem (110), and the remote computer terminal (130) at the remote location for automatically dialing the number of the called telephone (310) at the location of the central host computer (300). A second security circuit (350) is located at the central host computer (300) and is interconnected with the called telephone (130), the called modem (330), and the central host computer (300). Upon receipt of the user identification code, the second security circuit (350) compares the user identification code with a stored code and, if verified, sends an acknowledgment signal back to the first security circuit (200). At this time, the two security circuits (200 and 350) activate respective solid state switches (260 and 370) to interconnect the host computer (300) with the remote computer terminal (130). A portable memory module (240) is selectively insertable in the first security circuit (200) to selectively activate and deactivate the first security circuit and which contains the secret phone number of the called telephone (310) at the host computer (300) as well as the secret user identification code.

Abstract:

The linear differential equation expresses the thermally compensated pressure determination as a relation between a derivative of temperature and a derivative of pressure error. The linear differential equation contains several coefficients having constant values, and these constant values are computed by calibrating the pressure gauge in a pressure tank having a known pressure and temperature. When the gauge is later placed in an oil or gas well, the coefficient values are used to obtain the corrected measured pressure from the raw measured pressure received from the gauge.

Abstract:

The present invention is a method for monitoring contact levels of fluids in a subterranean oil reservoir. A monitoring wellbore is provided from an earthen surface into the oil reservoir which includes an oil zone, a water zone, and a gas zone, each having a level in the reservoir. The monitoring wellbore contains a plurality of fluids including an oil phase, a water phase and a gas phase, each have a level in the monitoring wellbore which substantially corresponds to the level of the oil, water and gas zones, respectively, in the reservoir proximal to the monitoring wellbore. The method includes positioning a transducer pair having a first and a second transducer in the oil phase of the monitoring wellbore, transmitting a plurality of first acoustic output signals from the first transducer in a first direction and transmitting a plurality of second acoustic output signals from the second transducer in a second direction. A gas/oil interface is contacted with one of the first acoustic output signals and a first acoustic input signal is reflected back to the first transducer in response to the contact. A contact level of the oil and gas zones is determined from the first acoustic input signal.
