Abstract:
An optical fiber cable routing guide for bending an optical fiber cable while protecting the optical fiber cable from sharp bends that could cause optical fiber damage or degradation of signal transmission. The cable routing guide is made in the form of an elongated curved channel to receive and bend an optical fiber cable and the enclosing strain relief boot at an optical fiber cable connector. One end of the elongated curved channel is shaped to make abutting contact with the cable connector and has protruding studs shaped to prevent rotation of the cable routing guide relative to the cable connector. The cable routing guide is easily installed without the need for tools and provides compact installation and routing of optical fiber cables within an enclosure.

Abstract:
A steering mechanism for a track-mounted robot is provided. The steering mechanism comprises guide wheels, which are fixed to yokes that pivot around secondary drive wheels. The pivot action of the yokes allows the guide wheels to maintain full contact with the track and steer as the robot traverses straight and curved portions of the track. Linkage components attach the yokes to a cam follower which follows a cam surface in the track in order to force the proper angle of steering for the guide wheels.

Abstract:
A segmented power strip for supplying electrical power to a robotic device for use in a data storage system, the robotic device adapted to move along a guide rail. The power strip includes first and second substantially planar members each having an end and a conductor for making electrical contact with the robotic device. The first and second members are assembled to create a joint where the conductor of the first member is proximate the conductor of the second member such that the robotic device maintains electrical contact with at least one conductor as the robotic device traverses the joint. The ends of the first and second members are adapted to cooperate such that at least one of the first and second members moves laterally relative to the other during assembly thereof. At least one of the first and second members is biased against lateral motion relative to other.

Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for steering a vehicle are disclosed. A vehicle in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present invention is capable of operating in a first steering mode and a second steering mode. The vehicle may comprise an input device capable of providing an input signal indicating that operation in the second steering mode is desired. The vehicle may comprise an electronic control unit (ECU) capable of providing an enabling signal when the ECU determines that operation in the second steering mode is appropriate for the present riding conditions.

Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to a disk drive assembly including a printed circuit board having a front end opposite a back end, and opposite side edge portions extending between the front and back ends. A disk drive is electrically and mechanically connected to printed circuit board. Clips for damping vibration are mounted on each opposite side edge portion of the printed circuit board. Damping is also achieved via elastomeric layers positioned between the clips and the printed circuit board.
A solar collector is designed for use in the window opening of a house and also serves to retain the window function for the occupants of the house. The collector has a rectangular frame having an inner pane of glass, an outer pane or panes and a plurality of rotatable louvers mounted in the frame between the inner and outer panes. The louvers have a reflective material on one side and a dark or solar absorbing surface on the other, thereby allowing the proper side to be rotated into position depending on the season. A heated chamber is provided within the louvers so that the working fluid may flow directly through the louvers and allow the heat transfer to occur therein.

Abstract:
A method for extracting information from a document bearing (a) first indicia detectable in a first scan mode, using light in a first spectral range, but not detectable in a second scan mode, using light outside the first spectral range, and (b) second indicia detectable in either the first scan mode or second scan mode, where the second indicia represent information encoded in one or more forms decodable by automated symbol recognition resources, comprise several steps. One or more areas of interest on the document are defined in which the second indicia may appear, with the definition including information specifying the form of encoding for the second indicia. The document is scanned in the second mode, using a scanner that produces a pixel image of the indicia detected and the resulting pixel data are stored in a memory device. An area of interest is selected from those defined for the document and the pixel image of that area of interest is processed with an automated symbol recognition resource suitable for the form of encoding specified for the second indicia in the selected area of interest to produce one or more output records incorporating symbol information representative of the second indicia.
Fluid-Cooled Blind Panels Configured To Generate Electricity And Heat
The present invention is an apparatus and method using solar insolation to heat fluid moving through panels, resulting in relatively hot fluid. A set of such panels might be installed in a window. Heat is removed from the hot fluid in a heat reservoir or heat sink, resulting in relatively cool fluid. In some embodiments, the hot fluid and the cool fluid are placed in thermal contact with opposite sides of a thermoelectric generator, thereby generating electricity. In some embodiments, photovoltaic cell modules are embedded in the panels, the fluid system improving the effectiveness of the cells. A given system might use either approach to generate electricity, or both. Heat from the heat reservoir might be used to heat a building. A thermoelectric system might be run in reverse at night.
