Abstract:

An exhaust sampler for use in evaluating exhaust emissions of an exhaust source such as an internal combustion engine which utilizes a calibrated subsonic venturi for measuring the exhaust or exhaust/dilution air flow rate. Controls are provided for selecting and controlling a variety of flow rates between or during test periods. The system also provides a variety of control methods for extracting a sample from the bulkstream flow of exhaust and dilution air or from raw exhaust flow.

Abstract:

A testing apparatus for sampling the emission content of the source when a portion of the exhaust gas is optionally diluted using clean dry air added near the sample extraction point. A sonic venturi is used to establish a constant mass flow rate from the exhaust system of the engine under test and a subsonic venturi monitors the flow rate of dilution air. Both venturis provide flow rate signals which are substracted to determine the flow rate of the exhaust.

Abstract:

Method and apparatus for monitoring and signalling the quantity of a known gas, or gases, in a gas mixture. The monitoring system is particularly adapted to continuously sense the quantity of hydrogen or oxygen in the containment gas mixture for a nuclear reactor electrical power generator. The monitoring system utilizes thermal conductivity gas measuring cells arranged in an electrical bridge network along with a catalytic reactor for modifying the constituency of the containment gas mixture undergoing measurement to provide the signal representative of the changes in constituency of the containment gas mixture at the power generating site.
