Abstract:

Techniques are described for implementing the automatic generation of a DynaKeyâ GUI external file that is then used by the corresponding builder B , runtime R , and tester T systems. The automation begins by data-mining D a design document, screen-by-screen, to extract pertinent text, icon, static key, screen branching, and other necessary information. The data-mined file is then used to create a new GUI external interface file or to modify an existing interface file. During the process, information is provided in list boxes to insure the design document is free of errors as well as to provide a log of update modifications when an interface is modified. The list box contents can also be printed to allow for viewing an expanded version of the list box contents. Accordingly, many successive prototypes leading to the final production system can be implemented much more quickly and efficiently than with typical preexisting approaches.

Abstract:

A builder, tester, and runtime integration system and method for a graphical touch user interface, such as a point-of-sale (POS) touch screen interface system, is provided. The system and method may include a builder tool to create and modify the graphical interface, a tester tool for testing the interface, and a run-time system for actually executing the interface logic. Because the interface may be designed, modified and tested external to the run-time system, the design and maintenance may be performed by a non-programmer without ever changing run-time code. Additionally, the builder and tester may be designed to be general-purpose, and the run-time code may be reusable.

TM. , or equivalent, interface that is less expensive than previous methods because: human interface and software personnel work in parallel in building and modifying the interface using NICE customized DKItem/DKList objects, a significant amount of interface maintenance is done without ever changing the runtime code since the interface is external, much of the code for the builder program and tester program is general-purpose, and most of the complex, event-driven runtime code is reusable.
