Abstract:

A method, system, and computer program by which a logical network connection can be maintained in the presence of disruption or failure of the underlying physical network connection. The technique defines a virtual connection between the client and gateway, which is not dependent upon continuous connectivity in the underlying physical connection, and can resume operation transparently even though the physical connection may be established on a different media type. Additionally, the technique of the present invention enables the physical medium to be changed even though the physical connection was not disrupted. This change in medium may be based on a number of factors, such as quality of service or transmission speed, which can be monitored. A graphical user interface ("GUI") is defined whereby the human user may observe a depiction of the available physical connections and their status, information regarding the physical connection currently in use, etc. The user may initiate changes to the current physical connection from this GUI, without disrupting the logical connection.

A method and system is presented which enables the user to maintain the receipt of information from an application bar while the application bar is minimized. In addition, the conveyance of information and availability of controls to the user is maintained while the user moves the window which the application bar is docked to off or around the presentation space.

Abstract:

Methods, systems and program products which provide dynamic status to a user. The status is provided by providing a plurality of icons arranged in a pattern corresponding to the relationship between the items the icons represent. User input is acquired which indicates whether the plurality of icons are to be displayed and the icons are selectively displayed based on the user input. A segmented status line is displayed adjacent the plurality of icons. The segmented status line is made up of a plurality of linearly arranged status segments. Each segment of the status line corresponds to at least one of the plurality of icons such that the appearance of a segment of the segmented status line reflects the status of the item associated with the icon corresponding to the segment of the status line. Furthermore, the status segment corresponding to an icon is aligned with its corresponding icon such that the sequence of the segments of the status line correspond to the relationship between the items represented by the icons. The appearance of the segments of the segmented status line is revised as the status of the item corresponding to the segment of the status line changes.
