Abstract:
An apparatus, a method, and a computer program product for effective communication routing of unicast and broadcast data traffic in wireless ad-hoc networks are presented. The routing technique separates the signaling and data transmission portions of a data frame such that the length of the signaling portion is independent of the length of the data portion. In the signaling portion, reservations are able to be performed and confirmed, while the data portion also includes a reservation confirmation portion which allows reservations made in during the signaling portion of the frame to be confirmed immediately prior to transmission of the data. In addition, the present invention also provides a mechanism for dynamically adjusting reservations.

Abstract:
A wireless hybrid network consisting at least one satellite and a plurality mobile ad hoc nodes. The nodes are assumed to be clustered into mobile groups within the footprint of the satellite , and the objective is to enable reliable communications between the various nodes. At least one relatively powerful gateway , also mobile, is deployed for each cluster of nodes to facilitate communication with a LEO or GEO satellite. The environment is characterized by the presence of terrestrial barriers or other severe channel impairments. One of the goals of the invention is to provide a mechanism by which a mobile gateway can change its position or define its trajectory based on the position and loading of the nodes in an ad hoc network, so as to optimize certain pre-defined performance criterion, such as power, overhead, throughput.

Abstract:
A radio frequency transmitter includes a baseband transmit processing module, a mixing module, a power amplifier, a transmit power sense module, and a transmit power control module. The baseband transmit processing module is operably coupled to encode outbound data into outbound baseband signals in accordance with one of a plurality of encoding protocols. The mixing module is operably coupled to convert the outbound baseband signals into outbound radio frequency signals. The power amplifier is operably coupled to amplify the outbound RF signals prior to transmission to produce amplified outbound RF signals. The transmit power sense module is operably coupled to sense the amplified outbound RF signals to provide a transmit signal strength indication (TSSI). The transmit power control module is operably coupled to adjust gain of the baseband transmit processing module, the mixing module, and/or the power amplifier based on the TSSI and the particular encoding protocol used to produce the baseband signals.

Abstract:
Methods, devices and systems for wireless communication generate signals by determining whether legacy devices are within a proximal region of the wireless communication. When at least one legacy device is within the proximal region, a frame is formatted to include a preamble field, a signal field, and a data field. Further, the uncoded bits are encoded according to a coding format. The coding format is determined according to bits in the preamble and applicable sub-field lengths.

Abstract:
A method and system for a bandwidth efficient medium access control (MAC) protocol is provided, which may comprise communicating a request to transmit (RTS) signal to a receiving station to determine if a channel is available for transmission. A clear to send (CTS) acknowledgement signal may be received from the receiving station if the channel is available for transmission. A plurality of medium access control (MAC) protocol data unit (MPDU) fragments separated by a point coordination function (PCF) interframe space (PIFS) interval may be transmitted in response to the received CTS acknowledgement signal.

Abstract:
A method for wireless communication begins by determining whether legacy devices are within a proximal region of the wireless communication. The method continues, when at least one legacy device is within the proximal region, formatting a frame to include: a legacy preamble; a signal field; an extended preamble; at least one additional signal field; at least one service field; an inter frame gap; and a data field.
A system includes a first transmitter, a second transmitter, and a legacy receiver. The first transmitter transmits information via a first channel to the legacy receiver. The second transmitter transmits a time-shifted version of the information via a second channel to the legacy receiver. The legacy receiver combines the information received via the first channel and the time-shifted information received via the second channel to provide combined information. The legacy receiver processes the combined information as though it is received via a single channel.
Method And System For Minimum Mean Squared Error Soft Interference Cancellation (Mmse-Sic) Based Suboptimal Maximum Likelihood (Ml) Detection For Multiple Input Multiple Output (Mimo) Wireless System
Various aspects of a method for minimum mean square error soft interference cancellation (MMSE-SIC) based sub-optimal maximum likelihood (ML) detection for a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) wireless system may comprise selecting at least one constellation point in a constellation map based on at least one of a plurality of received symbols. A number of the at least one constellation point may be less than or equal to a number of previously selected constellation points in a previous constellation map. At least one of the plurality of received symbols may be decoded based on the selected at least one constellation point.

Hospital: 4 critically injured in North Andover chemical explosion
The injuries we saw were consistent with a chemical explosion: blast injuries and burns, Dr. George Kondylis, chief of Emergency Medicine at Lawrence General told reporters. Unfortunately, these kinds of events do happen, and its what we are trained to handle. As a verified Trauma Center we see
