Abstract:

A method for stabilizing a cosmetic composition containing carrageenan, specifically, a toothpaste, wherein microwave radiation, preferably in the 0. 8 to 3 gigahertz frequency range, is directed onto the toothpaste so as to raise its temperature to at least the gel-sol transition temperature of the carrageenan, after which the toothpaste is quiescently cooled to room temperature. The use of microwave radiation facilitates an even heating of the toothpaste, so that temperature sensitive components thereof are not adversely affected, and promotes excellent control of temperature regulation. Heating of the dentifrice, with improved thickening and stabilization thereof, is obtainable by passing it through a conduit while directing microwave radiation onto it and then filling it into suitable dispensing containers, or by filling the dentifrice into such containers and then subjecting them to microwave radiation.

Abstract:

A free standing merchandiser or wire display rack is disclosed having a carrier detachably connected to a support means for supporting display merchandise such as books, food, or the like. The support means is formed as two elongated horizontally disposed spaced support rods that are offset both horizontally and vertically from one another with the upper support rod being located forwardly of the lower support element. The carrier has framework for supporting the displayed merchandise, and parallel mounting arms rearwardly upstanding from the framework terminating in novel hooks which hook onto a pair of spaced support rods. The hooks are formed with a first contiguous arm segment backfolded or angled relative to the upper part of the mounting arm to define a V-bend therebetween, and a second contiguous arm segment bent or angled relative to the first arm segment to extend in a direction away from the V-bend and the upper arm part. When the carrier is mounted on and connected to the support rods, the V-bend overlies the upper and forward support element presenting a smooth surface to the merchandise in the carrier while the first contiguous arm segment fits between the two support elements, and the second contiguous arm segment underlies the lower and rearward support element. These hooks with the V-bends therein can be fabricated to relatively close tolerances to define a relatively constant angle of inclination for each of the carriers.

Abstract:

Disclosed is a collapsible support base for supporting one end of an elongated shaft. The support includes four legs arranged in opposing pairs so as to form two cross members. The central portion of one cross member is flexible so as to be compressible to a smaller cross-sectional dimension, facilitating its insertion in a central portion of the other cross member. When interfitted, the two cross members are interlocked so that a preselected angular displacement between the legs thereof is maintained. In one embodiment, the cross members are pivotally interconnected one with the other at a central shaft-receiving portion. The central portions of the cross members may also include detent means for locking the cross members at a preselected angular position. The cross members may also be telescopically insertable one with the other with no provision for relative pivotal displacement.
