Abstract:

A scalable pipelined pixel shader that processes packets of data and preserves the format of each packet at each processing stage. Each packet is an ordered array of data values, at least one of which is an instruction pointer. Each member of the ordered array can be indicative of any type of data. As a packet progresses through the pixel shader during processing, each member of the ordered array can be replaced by a sequence of data values indicative of different types of data (e. g. , an address of a texel, a texel, or a partially or fully processed color value). Information required for the pixel shader to process each packet is contained in the packet, and thus the pixel shader is scalable in the sense that it can be implemented in modular fashion to include any number of identical pipelined processing stages and can execute the same program regardless of the number of stages. Preferably, each processing stage is itself scalable, can be implemented to include an arbitrary number of identical pipelined instruction execution stages known as microblenders, and can execute the same program regardless of the number of microblenders. The current value of the instruction pointer (IP) in a packet determines the next instruction to be executed on the data contained in the packet.

Abstract:

A method and apparatus is provided for integrating an application into a network of computing resources. Applications using this integration have a virtualized access to one or more computing resources associated with the network. Virtualization is generally assured through at least one network connection between the virtual layer and the native network. Together, the virtual access is used to generate a virtual application network capable of providing the application access to the network of computing resources. The application is created into an orchestration of operations to manipulate the one or more computing resources according to a business process. As needed, the application and orchestration can be further partitioning into components to be distributed and executed over the virtual application network using the virtualized access.

Abstract:

An Object Request Broker (ORB) working in the Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) is structured to handle the registration of multiple and diverse communications protocols. The protocol engine of the ORB has it architecture modified so that it can accept a plug-in component which has a protocol connector and a protocol adapter portion for communication between client and server applications, respectively. The plug-in converts from the client/server applications to the General Inter-ORB Protocol used by the ORB. The plug-in will be fully operational if it has an interface to the rest of the ORB as required by the invention, including a protocol connection interface for the connector interface and Listener and Dispatcher interfaces for the server-adaptor interface.
