Abstract:

A portable light reel system holding electro-luminescent (EL) wire and self-contained electronics, providing a stand-alone and self-contained light reel. The rotatably mounted cylindrical hub about which the EL wire is wound accommodates a battery and inverter. A waterproof switch is operative to impress a high frequency A. C. voltage upon the EL wire providing an âONâ state or a âBLINKINGâ state. An external power connector is provided the means for charging the batteries as well as supplying power to the inverter.

Abstract:

The electroluminescent cable (EL-cable) connector is a connector for mechanically and electrically splicing together a pair of EL-cables, each cable having a center conductor coated with an electroluminescent phosphor and two fine wires spiraling the length of the phosphor coating. The connector comprises an insulated base into which the EL-wires are inserted at opposite ends, passing through annular sleeves of conducting material, which interconnect the thin outer wires of the two EL-cables. An electrically conducting jumper disposed within an insulated cap has spaced forked protrusions for mechanically engaging and electrically connecting together the center conductors of the EL-cables when the cap nests within the base. Additional embodiments of the present invention include a connector for interconnecting an EL-cable to a pair of insulated wires and a third embodiment for mounting EL-cable to a printed circuit board.

Abstract:

Apparatus and methods for raising a retractable mast comprise engaging at least three flat flexible strips such that each strip forms a side of a mast. Each strip comprises a set of tabs and slots disposed along opposite edges of the strips. The housing may further comprise a feed mechanism operable to interlock the at least three lengths of flexible strips by drawing the strips together causing each tab of each strip to engage with a slot of an adjacent flexible strip. In addition, the apparatus may comprise a controller module operable to control extending and retracting the mast. The apparatus may be incorporated in a robotic device operable to travel in at least a horizontal plane and extend the retractable mast.

Abstract:

A coaster for containers of hot or cold liquids that more effectively insulates the container from both the outer walls and base of the coaster, and that does so for longer periods of time of continuous use than known devices. Among other features, the coaster impedes the formation of condensate water on its outside walls and base, and provides an improved non-adhering adsorbent layer to receive and contain the container and receive the condensate drained from its walls.
