  • Microwave Radio System With Software Configuration Of Operating Parameters

    view source
  • US Patent:
    56302126, May 13, 1997
  • Filed:
    Nov 20, 1995
  • Appl. No.:
    8/561228
  • Inventors:
    Gideon Ben-Efraim - Cupertino CA
  • Assignee:
P-Com, Inc. - Santa Clara CA
  • International Classification:
    H04B 140
  • US Classification:
    455127
  • Abstract:
Structure for controlling the output power from a microwave transmitter uses a digital value transmitted under control of software to an outdoor unit of a transmitter thereby to allow the power output of the transmitter to be changed under control of the software. The digital value is generated by an indoor unit of the transmitter or a remote transmitter across a link or elsewhere in a network. Other parameters of the transmitter can also be varied under control of the software. These parameters include the frequency and muting as well as the generation of test signals at the transmitter. In one embodiment, the outdoor unit contains a non-volatile memory in which the digital value is stored and a microprocessor which generates a control signal from the digital value to set the output power of the transmitter. Software executed by the microprocessor can correct the control signal for temperature so that the output power of the transmitter does not change when outdoor temperature changes.
  • Wireless Atm Metropolitan Area Network

    view source
  • US Patent:
    59369493, Aug 10, 1999
  • Filed:
    Sep 5, 1996
  • Appl. No.:
    8/708593
  • Inventors:
Eliezer Pasternak - Palo Alto CA
Gideon Ben-Efraim - Palo Alto CA
Stuart M. Feeney - Cupertino CA
  • Assignee:
Netro Corporation - San Jose CA
  • International Classification:
    H04L 1228
  • US Classification:
    370328
  • Abstract:
The present invention provides an efficient point-to-multipoint microwave ATM network including a base station (BS) broadcasting a continuous transmission with a sector antenna. The system uses time division multiplex (TDM) for downstream transmission and time division multiple access (TDMA) for upstream transmission. The downstream transmission consists of ATM cells encapsulated in MAC protocol data units (PDUs) for forward error correction (FEC) and synchronization. Small Subscriber Terminals (STs), including Subscriber Radio Units (SRUs), receive the broadcast and pass it to a Subscriber Access System (SAS) that drops the ATM cells addressed only to them. To allow strong FEC protection and to maintain the same symbol rate as the downstream transmission without sacrificing bandwidth, a modified trellis code modulation technique, which incorporates Reed Solomon coding, is used during upstream transmission.
