A seal including a first metal component; a second metal component couplable with the first metal component; and a shape memory alloy having a first state and a second state, the first state and the second state being different in at least one dimension, wherein in response to an external stimulus, the shape memory alloy transitions in one or more dimension from the first state to the second state thereby forming at least one metal-to-metal seal.

Abstract:

Methods for traversing an expandable metal sealing element. An example method includes positioning an expandable metal sealing element in a wellbore; wherein the expandable metal sealing element includes a reactive metal and a void extending axially through at least a portion of the expandable metal sealing element. The method further includes disposing a line in the void and contacting the expandable metal sealing element with a fluid that reacts with the reactive metal to produce a reaction product having a volume greater than the reactive metal, wherein the reaction product seals around the line while it is disposed in the void.

Abstract:

A casing segment comprising a cylinder, a downhole tool, a first channel in the cylinder, a degradable plug wherein the plug degrades when exposed to a degrading fluid, said degrading fluid concurrently not degrading to the cylinder or the downhole tool, and a fluid reservoir that stores the degrading fluid, wherein the fluid reservoir is in fluid communication with the plug. A method comprising obtaining a casing segment having a cylinder, a downhole tool, and a fluid reservoir with degrading fluid, said degrading fluid concurrently not degrading to the cylinder or the downhole tool, wherein the cylinder includes a first channel, installing a degradable plug within the first channel, deploying the casing segment downhole, and exposing the degradable plug to the degrading fluid to cause the downhole tool to be in fluid communication with the interior surface of the cylinder.

Disclosed is an example casing mandrel that includes a body having a first end and a second end, the first end being configured to be coupled to an upper portion of a casing string and the second end being configured to be coupled to a lower portion of the casing string, a downhole tool operatively coupled to an outer surface of the body, a tool port defined in the body and extending between the downhole tool and an interior of the body and thereby placing the downhole tool in fluid communication with the interior of the body, and at least one degradable plug disposed within the tool port to prevent wellbore debris from obstructing fluid communication between the interior and the downhole tool, wherein the degradable plug degrades over time.

Abstract:

An expandable well screen can include a filter section which is displaced outward when the well screen is positioned downhole, the filter section including an outer surface that is recessed relative to a raised boundary of the filter section adjacent the recessed outer surface. Another filter section can include an outer surface having one more structures thereon which space the outer surface away from a well surface when the filter section is displaced outward. Another filter section can include one or more structures on an interior thereof which space apart inner and outer sides of a wall of the filter section, a telescoping tubular connector which provides fluid communication between the filter section and a base pipe of the well screen, and a filter media being positioned in the tubular connector.
