Abstract:
There is provided a process for increasing the Cetane Index of a distillate fraction by reacting the fraction with hydrogen over a catalyst comprising a hydrogenation component, such as platinum, and zeolite Beta. The process results in the selective ring opening of cyclic compounds, such as aromatics, with a minimum of cracking of paraffinic hydrocarbons.

Abstract:
There is provided a catalyst comprising a heteropoly acid, such as phosphotungstic acid, supported on a mesoporous crystalline material, such as M41S. A particular form of this M41S support is designated as MCM-41. There is also provided a method for preparing this catalyst by impregnating the heteropoly acid on the support. There is also provided a process for using this catalyst to catalyze acid catalyzed reactions, such as the isomerization of paraffins and the alkylation of aromatics.

Abstract:
This invention discloses an enhanced process for the hydroprocessing of a feed, the feed comprising a highly aromatic refinery distillate stream boiling in the range between 300. degree. and 900. degree. F. The feed is separated into light and heavy streams such that the light stream contains from 0. 1 to 5 wt. % dibenzothiophene, substituted dibenzothiophenes, and heavier polycyclic thiophenes. The lighter stream is hydrotreated at pressures from 300. degree. to 1000. degree. F. with a commercial catalyst having a hydrogenation component. The heavier stream is treated in the presence of hydrogen at higher pressure, from 600 to 2000 psig with a catalyst comprising active material having a Constraint Index of less than 2 in addition to a hydrogenation component in order to achieve over 35% conversion of material boiling above 630. degree. F. The active material of the catalyst is a highly siliceous zeolite or an acidic amorphous silica-alumina material.

Abstract:
There is provided a process for isomerizing and/or disproportionating a paraffin over a catalyst comprising MCM-36. Examples of paraffins which may be isomerized and/or disproportionated include those having from 3 to 10 carbon atoms. The reaction may take place in the presence or absence of cofed hydrogen, and the catalyst may optionally include a hydrogenation metal, such as platinum. An example of a particular reaction is the disproportionation of isopentane to produce a product comprising isobutane and branched hexanes.
