Abstract:
Ascorbic acid or one of its isomers, such as erythorbic acid is added in sufficient quantities to a chlorite-containing solution to rid the solution of chlorite. Sufficient ascorbic acid is added to the chlorite-containing solution to convert the chlorite to chloride. Industrial processes employing this process are disclosed.

Abstract:
A synergistic composition is provided for controlling odor from waste products. The composition comprises a combination of nitrate salt, sulfide-consuming compound, pH-elevating compound, sulfide-oxidizing, nitrate-reducing bacteria, and sulfide-oxidizing enzyme. The method includes adding a sufficient amount of the composition to a waste stream to provide sufficient sulfide-consuming compound to effect immediate removal of sulfide. The composition incorporates a pH elevating compound, which both decreases the amount of gaseous HS and puts the aqueous phase into a pH range where naturally occurring bacteria can more easily metabolize the sulfide. The composition also includes one or more nitrate salts which will accomplish longer term prevention of odors. Specific bacteria are incorporated into the formulation to insure that the nitrate has the right type and amount of bacteria present to prevent formation of and/or consume sulfide. Specific enzymes are incorporated into the formulation to promote oxidation of sulfide.

Abstract:
The invention is directed to a process for removing chlorite ion from a body of water containing unacceptably high levels of chlorite comprising adding to said body of water a chlorite removal chemical selected from the group comprising sodium dichloroisocyanurate dihydrate, sodium dichloroisocyanurate, trichloroisocyanurate, polyaluminum chloride, sodium permanganate, potassium permanganate, and catalase enzyme.

Method For Treating Reverse Osmosis Membranes With Chlorine Dioxide
Disclosed is a method for preventing osmotic membrane fouling comprising treating reverse osmotic feed water and membranes with chlorine dioxide at an extremely low concentration, e.g., as low as one part per billion in the feed water. The effective range may be in the range of 1-900 parts per billion. Also disclosed is a membrane separation system in which fouling is prevented using ultraviolet, pH acid adjustment or an electrochemical generator to produce the chlorine dioxide.

Abstract:
A synergistic composition and method is provided for controlling odor from waste products. The composition comprises a combination of magnesium hydroxide and a sulfide-consuming compound. The method includes adding a sufficient amount of the composition to a waste stream to provide sufficient sulfide-consuming compound to effect immediate removal of sulfide. The composition incorporates a pH elevating and buffering compound, which both increases and buffers the pH. The increased pH serves to reduce both the volatile sulfide species and the volatile fatty acid (VFAs) species. The elevated pH also promotes the growth of naturally occurring bacteria which metabolize the sulfide to an innocuous form. Finally, addition of the composition drives the pH into a range where the growth of sulfide producing bacteria is inhibited. The mixture has surprisingly been found to be synergistic with respect to both control of chemical species that produce odors and corrosion of metals commonly found in sludge dewatering equipment.
Apparatus And Method Of Producing Chlorine Dioxide
A method for producing chlorine dioxide at rates of from a few pounds per day to several hundred pounds per day. A very simple, fixed capacity, educator-based () chlorine dioxide generator with booster pump () which provides a constant and precise motive water flow through the educator (). The mixing of precursors is accomplished by educator vacuum pulling the precursors together through separate, but identical fixed diameter flow restrictors (-). Precursors flow together in a specified manner and into a reaction column () occupied by a static mixer () to provide more intimate mixing. Production of small quantities is accomplished by operating the generator in a pulsed mode, via a timer ().
