Abstract:
According to a method of controlling access to a prepaid packet data communication service, a prepaid server transmits a resource response in response to receipt of a resource request for prepaid resources from a prepaid client. The resource response specifies a quota of prepaid resources no greater than a prepaid account balance of a prepaid service subscriber and a resource usage threshold at which the prepaid client provides notification. The prepaid client then receives a notification from the prepaid client indicating that the threshold of prepaid resources has been reached, and in response to the notification, performs an accounting updating reflecting a portion of the prepaid account balance that has been consumed.

Abstract:
A packet data service node is formed to establish an “always on” connection with a mobile terminal by way of a packet control function card or device with the ability to determine when a mobile terminal no longer requires a previously established point-to-point protocol communication link. Thus, to prevent unnecessary communications after a mobile terminal loses RF, the PDSN transmits a PPP inactivity timer remaining timer to the mobile terminal. The mobile terminal then generates communication s signals to the PDSN after regaining RF based upon an internal counter value initialized with the received PPP inactivity time remaining counter. In the described embodiment, the timer remaining timer value is equal to the inactivity timer summed with a total amount of time expected to be expended (in a worst case situation) soliciting responses from the mobile terminal with pings (e.g., LCP-Echo-Requests).

Abstract:
The present invention provides for reactivating a plurality of dormant packet data services instances. A mobile station user desires to activate at least one dormant packet data service instance. A service negotiation is initiated between the mobile station data and the wireless support network supporting the mobile station; which includes sending from the mobile station to identify all of the dormant service instances desired to be activated.
