Abstract:
A bottle type container is fabricated by blow molding a continuous wall liner of thermoplastic polymer integrally to the interior wall surface of an oppositely matched pair of paperboard cladding jackets. Paperboard cladding jackets respective to each pair are joined substantially edge-to-edge along the meeting seam exclusively by the continuous liner wall lap. For container stability when resting on a flat surface, at least one folded ridge is formed in the bottom edge panel of both jackets.
A sliding lid is disclosed for use on flanged trays. The lid is prepared from a blank of flexible material such as paperboard or the like and includes side panels which are folded and glued to provide slide channels for accepting the tray flange. The blanks are cut and scored to include integral guides at the leading edges of the slide channels for accepting the tray flange and friction locking means which cooperate with the sides of the tray to retain the lids in place. The lids are intended for use on ovenable trays for packaging and cooking food.
A venting/opening scheme for tray type cartons, wherein the tray has a continuous, upper peripheral flange to which a lid is bonded, and the tray includes opening instructions printed on a side wall for opening one of two adjacent corners of the tray, the improvement wherein a venting/opening means is applied to the tray flange at both of the two adjacent corners of the tray where the opening instructions are printed. The application of a venting/opening means at each corner allows the cartons to be opened by peeling the lid off from left-to-right or from right-to-left. The venting/opening means comprises partial depth cut lines located in the underside of the tray flange at each adjacent corner of the tray. The partial depth cut lines allow the portion of the tray flange outboard of the cut lines to be broken away from the continuous flange and used to lift the corner of the lid, thereby interrupting the bond between the lid and flange for venting and opening the carton.
A carton for food products or the like comprises a combination lid and tray with a bottom locking means for securing the lid and tray when the carton is closed. The bottom locking means comprises a locking tongue integral with an extended portion of the lid component which engages a locking slot formed in the bottom of the tray component. The locking tongue comprises a tab element formed as a part of a flap foldably attached to an extension of the front wall of the lid. The locking slot comprises a cut out formed substantially along the fold line between the bottom wall and front wall of the tray.
A venting/opening means for an ovenable carton having a separate lid with venting and opening instructions printed on one corner, and a tray with a continuous peripheral flange. The improvement wherein the venting/opening means is applied to each corner of the tray flange for polygonal shaped cartons having side walls of equal length, or to designated diagonally opposed corners of trays of rectangular shape so as to provide a venting/opening means under the printed instructions on the lid notwithstanding how the lid is oriented on the tray. The venting/opening means takes the form of partial depth cut lines, cut score lines or the like arranged diagonally across the corners of the tray flange. These cut lines provide corner tabs which may be separated from the tray flange to allow the tray to be opened by fracturing the portion of the tray flange outboard of the cut lines and first partially lifting the lid to vent the carton, and then finally opening the carton by lifting the lid completely off the tray.
