Abstract:
A full or partial air-to-water de-anamorphoser and method of air-to-water de-anamorphosis is provided. A housing has a planar transparent window in one end thereof adjacent to a defined air space. The housing is placed under the water's surface with an acute angle being formed between the window and the water's surface to thereby define a virtual prism whose center leads its apex. An optical prism having an apex and a center is positioned in the housing's air space and is spaced apart from the housing's window such that the prism's apex leads its center as measured along a line parallel to light exiting the prism. The light exiting the prism was originally incident on the water's surface, subsequently traveled through the water, and then was passed sequentially through the housing's window, the housing's air space and the prism.
Diver's Face Mask Having Aspheric, Afocal Lens System Providing Unit Magnification For Use As A Window Between Air And Water
The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Navy - Washington DC
International Classification:
G02C 100
US Classification:
351 43
Abstract:
A lens system is adaptable to face masks for divers and camera windows and ssures improved viewing characteristics underwater, including unit magnification and substantially perspective distortion-free viewing over a wider field of view. The system includes a first lens having a concave outer face contacting water and a concave inner face contacting a gas filled interior. A second lens spaced apart from the first lens in the interior has a convex outer surface and a flat inner surface. The concave outer face and concave inner face of the first lens and the convex outer surface and flat an inner surface of the second lens are coaxially aligned and optically oriented to afocally process and transmit light passing through them to a nodal point in the interior. At least one of the outer face, concave inner face, convex outer surface and inner surface defines an aspheric curve. A pair of such lens systems may be mounted in a face mask structure or a single modified lens system having a flat outer face may be mounted in a case for an underwater camera.

Afocal Water-Air Lens With Greatly Reduced Lateral Color Aberration

International Classification:

US Classification:

Abstract:
An afocal lens system is provided between two different mediums having dirent indices of refraction and dispersion values, and is used in such devices as diver-masks. The lateral chromatic aberration inherent in the usual flat-surface of a transparent protecting mask is greatly reduced. This is done by an arrangement which combines a positive low dispersion lens with a negative high dispersion lens in various arrangements with each other.
