  • Syringe

    view source
  • US Patent:
    43467083, Aug 31, 1982
  • Filed:
    Apr 20, 1981
  • Appl. No.:
    6/255353
  • Inventors:
Harry H. LeVeen - Charleston SC
Robert F. LeVeen - Philadelphia PA
Eric G. LeVeen - Albany NY
  • International Classification:
    A61M 100
  • US Classification:
    128236
  • Abstract:
A syringe comprising a cylindrical barrel with a wall at one end with a nozzle and with a threaded actuating rod extending from its other end, the rod having an axial bore and a piston in fluid tight engagement with the inner wall of the barrel is connected to the rod by compressible spring means which is an extension of the rod threads. The rod also carries a collar with threads which mate with the rod threads, and the collar has slots which engage projections on the barrel and prevent movement of the collar relative to the barrel but which permit the collar to be disengaged readily from the barrel. An indicator rod is connected at one end to the piston and is slidable in the bore of the actuating rod. The opposite end of the indicator rod, bearing graduation marks, extends axially outwardly of the actuating rod. Rotation of the actuating rod causes movement of the piston axially of the barrel when the collar is engaged, and as the pressure on fluid within the barrel increases, the spring means compresses causing the indicator rod to extend farther outwardly of the actuating rod and thereby, indicates the fluid pressure.
  • Radio Frequency Thermotherapy

    view source
  • US Patent:
    50997564, Mar 31, 1992
  • Filed:
    Jun 1, 1989
  • Appl. No.:
    7/360244
  • Inventors:
    Cafiero Franconi - Rome, IT
Carlo A. Tiberio - Rome, IT
Harry H. LeVeen - Charleston SC
  • International Classification:
    A61N 204
  • US Classification:
    600 10
  • Abstract:
Apparatus for treating neoplasms in humans and animals comprising a hollow toroidal applicator which resonates at a specific radiofrequency, and which possess electrically conductive walls on which radial radiofrequency currents flow and generate a high density of uninterrupted magnetic flux within the hollow body. A rotatable antenna connected to a source of radiofrequency power is mounted inside the applicator body to couple with the electromagnetic field of the applicator. The body part to be treated is interposed through side apertures or through the space created by removing a segment of the toroid which can have orifices of predetermined cross sectional areas across which a tubular zone of high magnetic flux travels through the interposed tumor and normal tissue to induce more heat in the interposed tumor tissue than in the interposed normal tissue.
  • Reinforced Balloon Catheter

    view source
  • US Patent:
    44481950, May 15, 1984
  • Filed:
    May 8, 1981
  • Appl. No.:
    6/261810
  • Inventors:
Harry H. LeVeen - Charleston SC
Eric G. LeVeen - Albany NY
Robert F. LeVeen - Philadelphia PA
  • International Classification:
    A61M 2902
  • US Classification:
    128344
  • Abstract:
A balloon catheter is formed by blow molding an elongated polyurethane tube so that one section of the tube has a thinned cross sectional balloon area between the distal end of tube which is sealed and its open proximal end. The balloon portion which is positioned adjacent the distal end has a thinner cross sectional area which allows a balloon to be formed if a fluid is introduced into the catheter by a syringe apparatus which is adapted to be attached to the lumen by a connection adaptor. A wire guide member is adapted to be inserted through the lumen for stretching the catheter when it is inserted into a blood vessel to stiffen the catheter and position it in a proper position. The wire guide member may also be mitred at predetermined intervals to determine the position of the catheter within the blood vessel.

  • US Classification:
    128236
  • Abstract:
A syringe comprising a cylindrical barrel with a wall at one end with a nozzle and with a threaded actuating rod extending from its other end, the rod carrying a piston in fluid tight engagement with the inner wall of the barrel. The rod also carries a collar with threads which mate with the rod threads, and the collar has slots which engage projections on the barrel and prevent movement of the collar relative to the barrel but which permit the collar to be disengaged readily from the barrel. A manually engageable knob is rotatably mounted on the rod at its end remote from the piston and is interconnected with the rod by a compressible, spiral spring. A ratchet wheel is mounted on the rod so as to rotate therewith and is adjacent the knob. The knob carries a spring biased pawl in the form of a tooth which is engageable with the ratchet wheel teeth. As the pressure on the fluid in the barrel is increased, the spring is compressed and the knob rotates with respect to the rod causing the pawl to assume a position dependent on the pressure.
