Hart Fellowship Fellow Duke University Public Policy Department The Hart Fellows Program offers recent Duke University graduates ten-month fellowships with organizations in developing countries that are facing complex social and political problems.
I worked in the Bahia region of Brazil as a 2004-05 Hart Fellow. Based at the Federal University in Salvador, Bahia's capital, I worked with micro-enterprise organizations focused on increasing work opportunities for marginalized youth. I researched the structures and strategies used by six local cooperatives that were striving to become self-sustaining enterprises.
During this period of time I achieved written and conversational fluency in Portuguese.
