Abstract:

An aircraft ignition cable connector includes a radio-shielded ignition cable. The cable has an outer insulating cover, a shielding conductor, an inner insulating layer, and a center conductor. The cable is encased in a flexible, conducting, elbow tube. The elbow tube is attached at one end to the shielding conductor of the cable and attached at the other end to a metallic ferrule held to a threaded spark plug by an internally threaded nut. The elbow tube is capable of retaining a particular shape after bending. The elbow tube is formed from a sheet of malleable metallic material. The sheet has first and second, opposed parallel edges and third and fourth, opposed parallel edges normal to the first and second edges. The sheet has a series of single, back-to-back folds parallel to the third and fourth edges and is formed about a cylindrical mandrel with the long axis of the mandrel perpendicular to the folds. The first and second edges are joined to form an open-ended cylindrical tube that is shaped into the elbow.

Abstract:

A jet engine igniter lead elbow assembly includes a hollow saddle adapter with a semi-circular cutout at one end, a master cylinder, an extension tube, a ferrule and a nut extension tube. The master cylinder is hollow, having a perpendicular circular orifice adjacent a closed end. The semi-circular cutout is shaped to fit over the circular orifice. The lower end of the master cylinder attaches to the top end of the extension tube. The bottom end of the extension attaches to the first end of the ferrule. The saddle adapter is attached to the master cylinder at the semi-circular cutout, the extension tube is then attached to the lower end of the master cylinder. The nut extension tube is slipped over the extension tube and the ferrule is then attached. The preferred method of attachment is silver soldering as it permits removal and replacement of the component parts without damage.

Abstract:

A two-piece jet engine igniter assembly includes a front section and a rear section. When the igniter assembly is installed in an aircraft, either the front section or the rear section is removable for service or replacement. The front section includes a detachable cooling module. The cooling module includes a cooling tube adapter and a rear ferrule attached at either end of a flexible conduit. The conduit surrounds a thin wall polytetrafluorethalene liner, a braided tube and a cable support. The braided tube is electrically connected to the flexible conduit. Another version of the cooling module, designed for serviceability, includes a cooling tube adapter and a modified rear ferrule attached at either end of a flexible conduit, however a thick wall polytetrafluorethalene liner is removably secured within the flexible conduit by a circular clip sized and shaped to fit through the cylindrical bore of the modified rear ferrule when compressed.

Abstract:

An improved general aviation igniter cable assembly includes either a single or double coil spring. The double coil spring has inner and outer portions. The outer portion has first and second ends. The first end rotatably engages the cylindrical recess in the ferrule. The outer portion surrounds the first end of the grommet with the second end bearing against the retainer. The distal end of the inner portion is located within the outer portion and bears against the first end of the grommet to put pressure on the spark plug contact button. For the magneto end of the cable, a sealing grommet fits slidably over an insulating sleeve of the cable and seals against a magneto plate when a surrounding threaded nut is tightened into a collar of the magneto plate and the plate is attached to a magneto, providing an airtight seal to the magneto plate and the magneto.
