Abstract:

A new type of thin-walled dielectric loaded antenna which is capable of fh mounting to almost any surface contour. This very thin wrap-around antenna consists essentially of 2 modified cavity-backed slot radiators, spacially positioned 180. degree. apart. Typically, a stripline feed network is used to couple the microwave energy to the individual radiating slots. A plurality of plated through holes define the boundary for the stripline feed network.

Abstract:

A dual radiating system where one radiating element is placed atop the ot in a piggyback fashion. The elements can be a pair of microstrip or dielectric-loaded parallel plate radiators, or it can be a combination of the two. Separate coaxial lines feed each of the radiators, and there is a minimum of coupling from one antenna to another. The antenna can be used alone or more effectively in a linear or planar conformal array.

Abstract:

An antenna system that comprises two or more linear arrays within close pimity which can be integrated into a conical dielectric radome. The elements of each array are wedge shaped open-ended cavity radiators plated on the outside of the radome structure. The bottom edge of each element is shorted to an inside conducting surface. Each array is designed to be operated in a different frequency band. A simple coaxial line feeds each of the radiators.

Abstract:

Disclosed herein is an antenna system for use with small projectile nose es (metal). The antenna comprises a wedge shaped metallized dielectric material having an electrical length equal to one-quarter wavelength as measured inside the center line of the wedge. The metallic coating covering both the top and bottom of the wedge is provided to form a parallel plate radiator. The metallic coating is also extended across the base of the wedge to define an RF short circuit at the base and an open circuit at the apex. An RF coupling probe extending into the wedge is located at a convenient impedance matching point near the base of the wedge. The operating frequency of the antenna may be capacitively tuned (either electrically or mechanically) by means of a variable capacitor connected across the open circuit end (the apex) of the antenna. Typically the dielectric comprises teflon-fiberglass or ceramic material although an air dielectric is also usable. Associated electronic circuitry is located within the nose cone adjacent the wedge antenna utilizing the available open space within the nose cone.

Abstract:

A radome-antenna structure includes a radome of lowloss dielectric materi the inner surface of which is plated with a copper shield having at least one aperture therethrough. A conformal radiating element is aligned with the aperture to direct radio frequency radiation through the aperture to the exterior of the radome. Generally, the radiating element consists of a dielectric substrate, which is surrounded by a copper shield. If necessary, a plurality of apertures and radiating elements may be included in a single radome. The radiating elements may be round or wedge shaped or may assume any advantageous configuration, as long as they conform to the geometry of the inner surface of the radome and do not leak radiation into the radome.

Abstract:

A radome-integrated conformal parallel plate radiator for a projectile. An ntenna system consisting of open-ended dielectric load cavity radiators is incorporated into a dielectric radome structure for space conservation and operational versatility. A plurality of individual radiating elements, preferably in the form of wedge-shaped metallic radiators, are flush-mounted on the non-planar surface of a projectile's radome. The interior surface of the hollow radome includes either a solid conductive ground plane deposited thereon or a wire screen mesh ground plane which is transparent to certain frequencies. Each of the exterior mounted wedge-shaped radiators are short-circuited to the ground plane, and may be individually excited and controlled to produce a desired radiation pattern.

Abstract:

A dielectric loaded edge-slot radiator whose exterior dimensions are adjuble to allow flush mounting on cylindrical and conical bodies which can be frequency tuned either electrically or mechanically. This is done by varying the number of inductive posts which are used as boundaries for the individual elements making up the antenna. A single inductive probe whose characteristic impedance is matched to the rf source is coupled so as to simultaneously excite all of the radiating elements in phase. The radiation field produced in a plane containing the radiator is nearly of constant amplitude.
