Abstract:

An incandescent lamp socket having an integral, self-contained current filtering device, such as a diode, is formed of a dielectric body having a lamp base receiving socket in one end thereof, a pair of channels extending from the socket to the other end of the body, a lamp base contact engaging terminal in one of the channels and, in the other channel, a lamp base contact engaging terminal, a power lead terminal spaced from the lamp based contact engaging terminal and a current filtering device, i. e. , a diode, disposed between and electrically connected to the two terminals. The current filtering device is thus mounted in series circuit with a lamp fitted in the socket body to prolong the service life of the lamp and to protect the lamp and other electrical components in series circuit with the lamp from electrical transients.

Abstract:

A lead aligning terminal for receiving a lamp with a exterior electrical lead comprises at least one contact blade, the blade carrying an elongate lead guide that is adapted to receive the electrical lead, and if it is bent, straighten the same as the lamp is being inserted into the terminal. The lead guide may comprise a slot, a keyhole slot, channel, groove, rib or a plurality of parallel ribs.

Abstract:

The present invention comprises a bulb socket assembly. The bulb socket assembly comprises a bulb accepting body portion, a terminal accepting body portion connected to the bulb accepting body portion, at least one terminal positioned in the bulb socket with the terminal's blade end extending into the bulb accepting body portion and its lead end positioned in the terminal accepting body, at least one wire connected to the lead end of the at least one terminal, and a sealing material substantially covering the lead end and the connected wire of the at least one terminal. One embodiment of the bulb socket assembly further comprises a stabilizing feature that allows the socket assembly to firmly grasp bulbs of various sizes. Another embodiment of the bulb socket assembly further comprises a plurality of alignment features to help guide a bulb into proper alignment with a set of terminals.

Abstract:

The present invention provides a lamp socket having a socket body with a lamp receiving portion and a back portion divided by a partition. The back side of the partition has a shelf and a recessed portion that extends inwardly relative to the shelf. The lamp socket also has at least one terminal in the socket body, the terminal has a lamp receiving end and a lead receiving end, and the lead receiving end is located in the back portion of the body. The lead receiving end extends from the shelf over the recessed portion. At least one wire lead is connected to the lead end of the terminal and the lead end is spaced outwardly from the partition. Potting material in the back portion of the socket to encapsulate the connection of the wire lead to the terminal. The potting material fills the recessed portion and the terminal fully encapsulating the connection point of the lead to the terminal.

Abstract:

The subject invention relates to terminals that are utilized in bulb sockets for automotive lamp assemblies. The embodiments of the bulb sockets disclosed provide for superior alignment and stabilization of the bulb in the bulb socket so that proper contact is made between the terminals and the bulb without damaging the bulb or the terminals during insertion. The terminal may comprise, among other things, at least one alignment feature, which may include partial spheres, that allows for easy insertion into the bulb socket and substantially ensures proper alignment and positioning within the bulb socket so that a proper connection can be maintained with the bulb and terminal Sealing material may be used to cover wire attachment portions of the terminals and plate portions of the terminals may be used to prevent the sealing material from entering a bulb accepting portion of the socket.
