A safety fishing line release includes a first arm, a second arm, a spring, a first frictional pad, a second frictional pad, and a peg. The first arm has a tab opening at a first end which is sized to loosely receive a tab disposed at a first end of the second arm. The second arm has a pad opening at a second offset which is sized to facilitate insertion of the second end of the first arm therethrough. The first and second frictional pads are fastened to the second ends of the first and second arms, respectively. A peg extends outward perpendicularly from the second frictional pad. A peg opening is formed in the first frictional pad and second end of the first arm. A spring is inserted between the first and second arms, the spring forces the first frictional pad against the second frictional pad such that a fishing line maybe fictionally retained between the first and second frictional pads. A typical fishing line release may be also improved by adding a peg to eliminate the possibility of detachment from a fishing line. The safety fishing line release may be further improved by using the peg as a pivot to retain a pulley.
Planar Board Having Strike Indication And Ease Of Retrieval
A planar board having ease of retrieval and strike indicator includes a base, a first and second fishing line release extending outward from the base, a rotary flag pivotally attached to said base, and at least one line retainer. The second fishing line release preferably has a means for positively retaining a fishing line. The fishing line is inserted into the first fishing line release, behind the positive retaining means of the second fishing line release, looped around an upstanding projection disposed on the rotary flag, and preferably inserted into at least one line retainer. When a fish strike occurs, the flag will be pulled downward. To retrieve the planar board into the boat, the user jerks the fishing line such that the fishing line is pulled out of the first fishing line release. The planar board also has other preferable embodiments which add or remove a fishing line release or remove the rotary flag.

A spring is inserted between the first and second arms, the spring forces the first frictional pad against the second frictional pad. A second safety feature utilizes a first and second prong to retain the fishing line instead of the peg or in combination with thereof. The safety fishing line release may be further improved by adding a force adjustment device. A second preferred embodiment of the safety fishing line release utilizes a force adjustment device and a simpler design.
Planar Board Having Strike Indication And Ease Of Retrieval
A planar board having ease of retrieval includes a base, a first fishing line release extending outward from substantially a front of the base, a second fishing line release extending outward from substantially a middle of the base, and a line retainer. A fishing line is retained by inserting thereof under the first fishing line release, inserting the fishing line release into a second fishing line release with preferably a peg, the fishing line is then inserted into a line retainer disposed at substantially the end of the base. A planar board with ease of retrieval allows a user to retrieve a planar board without tangling it with other planar boards being fished adjacent it. A planar board with ease of retrieval and strike indicator allows a user to easily retrieve the planar board and have notice of a fish strike.

A storage container with self-retaining lid includes a lid and a storage container. The structure for attaching the lid can be molded on to the bottom of the storage container, molded to the top of the lid, or molded to the lid and the bottom of the storage container. There are several preferred embodiments of the self-retaining lid. In a first preferred embodiment, the lid has a rim with a recessed cavity for receiving a lip of the storage container. In second and seventh preferred embodiments, a bottom of the storage container has a lip which is sized to be inserted into a sealing cavity of the lid. In a third preferred embodiment, a bottom of the storage container has a plurality of balls which are disposed to mate with a plurality of sockets. In a fourth preferred embodiment, a plurality of hooks are molded into at least two sides of the container and sized to receive the peripheral edge of the lid. In a fifth preferred embodiment, the bottom of the storage container has a plurality of corner lips which are sized to be firmly inserted into the sealing cavity of the lid.
A first embodiment of a planar board with strike indicator includes a base, a light source, a tip-up assembly, an actuation assembly, and a switch. An actuating fishing line release is pivotally connected to an plunger. A fishing line is retained by a front fishing line release, the actuating fishing line release, and a quick release guide. When a fish strikes the lure, the actuating fishing line release pivots away from the front fishing line release, the pole is released to display a flag, and the switch is closed to supply the light source with current from an electrical power source. In a second preferred embodiment, the planar board with strike indicator utilizes a pivotal arm instead of an actuation assembly. A second end of the pivotal arm retains the pole of until a fish strike rotates the pivotal arm against the spring force of an arm extension spring until the pole is released. When the pole is released, a switch closes and the light source emits light.
