Abstract:

The invention relates to delivery devices and methods for providing more uniform delivery of agents such as drugs. In some embodiments, a delivery device is provided made of one or more implantable materials having predetermined agent-permeable and agent-impermeable regions and a reservoir containing one or more active agents, either alone or in an acceptable composition, as well as methods of administering one or more agents using such a device. Also provided are methods of equilibrating such devices, so that a steady state of agent delivery can be achieved at or soon after introduction of the device to its intended location of use. Methods of use of such devices to deliver an agent are also provided.

Abstract:

The present invention relates to methods for removing residual surface material from porous polymerized particle surfaces. The particles thus produced have an increase in surface porosity and uniformity in a variety of applications. Desirably, substantially the entire surface communicates with the interior of the particles. Also provided are the particles produced by such methods, further modifications of such particles, and methods for using the particles in a variety of applications. Abstract:

In an analytical method for determining the presene or concentration of analyte in a solution comprising detecting a dissolved detectable substance in solution by passing a solution containing a detectable substance through a detection device for determining the presence of concentration of detectable substance in the solution, the improvement including mixing the solution with one or more particulate reagents to form a suspension, thereby modifying the solution to yield a concentration of total detectable substance which correlates with the concentration of original analyte, and passing the solution through the detecting device. The particles can be used to replace an analyte with a detectable substance or an intermediate which can be reacted in solution to form a detectable substance. Alternatively, the particles can be used to suppress or remove an interfering substance. The apparatus for sample detection includes a continuous flow sample source such as a process liquid source, carrier liquid-injected sample separator column such as an ion exchange column or chromatographic column, or a capillary zone electrophoresis sample separator.
