The present invention provides a system for treating a blood vessel. The blood vessel treatment system includes a hollow guidewire having a central lumen, an occlusion balloon attached proximate to a distal end of the hollow guidewire, and an inflation catheter slidable over the hollow guidewire. An annular inflation lumen formed between the inflation catheter and the hollow guidewire fluidly communicates with the central lumen of the hollow guidewire, allowing inflation fluid to flow through the annular inflation lumen and into a distal portion of the central lumen to inflate the occlusion balloon.
Guiding Catheter With Embolic Protection By Proximal Occlusion
A guiding catheter includes an elongate shaft with a central lumen and a mechanically expandable sealing membrane mounted about the distal end of the shaft. An expansion wire is slidably disposed in a dedicated lumen within the catheter, the expansion wire having an expandable distal portion with a pre-formed expanded shape capable of expanding the sealing membrane into sealing engagement with the wall of an artery to provide occlusion of blood flowing through the artery. In one embodiment, a steering wire is slidably disposed in a dedicated lumen within the catheter and is fixed adjacent the shaft distal end. Pushing or pulling the steering wire deflects the distal end of the catheter. In another embodiment, the guiding catheter has a pre-formed curve adjacent the distal end of the shaft.

Abstract:
An angioplasty catheter assembly having an anchoring catheter within a guide catheter such that the anchoring catheter anchors to the guide catheter and the inner wall of a coronary artery; the anchoring catheter has an opening in its tubular wall such that a guide wire and balloon dilatation catheter can be disposed therethrough and extending through the length of the anchoring catheter.
Single Lumen Catheter Shaft For A Balloon Catheter
A balloon catheter includes a one-piece shaft and a guidewire track for use of a guidewire that runs along an outer surface of the one-piece shaft adjacent to a longitudinal central axis of the one-piece shaft. The one-piece shaft has an inflation lumen formed therein. The one-piece shaft is formed to include a substantially C-shaped cross section, which has two endpoints and forms the guidewire track. The dimensions of the wall thicknesses between the inflation lumen and the guidewire track may be varied to help maintain the guidewire track and the gap between the endpoints of the C-shaped cross section such that a guidewire is maintained on the guidewire track and does not traverse the gap. In addition, a reinforcement may be included in the single lumen shaft to maintain the integrity of the guidewire track.

A filter is deployed adjacent an occlusion in a vessel. A device including a stent and a sheath is advanced to the occlusion, the sheath is retracted to deploy the stent, and the stent is post dilated by a balloon of the device. The sheath is advanced through the deployed stent and over the balloon and over the filter. Since the balloon and the filter are enclosed within the sheath, any possibility of the balloon and/or the filter catching on the stent during retraction is eliminated.

Abstract:
A guiding catheter assembly and a method for using the assembly for treating a stenotic lesion. The guiding catheter assembly includes a guiding catheter having an occluder balloon mounted distally thereon. A flexible leader is slidably disposed through a primary lumen of the guiding catheter and has a tapered distal portion extending distally of the guiding catheter. The guiding catheter may have a preformed curve at the distal end. An embodiment of the guiding catheter may also comprise at least one steering wire disposed within a steering lumen in the guiding catheter, the steering wire being operable to deflect the distal end of the guiding catheter.
