Abstract:

A self-coiling dent guard for protecting vehicles and other objects from damage caused by unwanted collisions is disclosed. The guard is comprised of a main body adapted to absorb the impact of colliding objects. A bistable spring strip is integrated within the main body of the guard, thus giving the guard its self-coiling properties. When not in use, a user may cause the guard to coil so as to be easily stored. A magnetic strip is attached to the length of the main body such that the guard may be removably attached to a vehicle or other object. A layer of felt covering the bottom of the guard protects the vehicle from being scratched when the guard is applied or removed.

Universal multimedia distribution, storage, and playback systems, devices, and methods are disclosed herein. A media distribution kiosk located at a retail establishment provides a user with access to a multitude of different forms of digital multimedia that may be purchased and downloaded onto a portable media transporter device. The portable media transporter device may then be inserted into a media storage and playback device that is capable of transcoding and storing the media on a hard disk drive. Additionally, the media storage and playback device is capable of transcoding, storing, and playing information residing on various other media formats such as DVD (movies, audio, gaming software), CD, and memory cards. Digital rights management (DRM) security measures employed at the kiosk and at the transporter and storage/playback devices ensure the integrity of the media transferred to the user.

Abstract:

A system for filtering breathing air and apparatus for accomplishing the same. The invention describes a nasal filtration system which can be inserted into the nasal cavities. Abstract:

A process for producing ethanol comprising the steps of hydrogenating an acetic acid feed stream to form a crude ethanol product and separating at least a portion of the crude ethanol product to form an ethanol stream and at least one vent stream. The vent stream comprises non-condensable gases at least one volatile organic. The process further comprises the step of scrubbing the vent stream with at least two different solvents to recover the volatile organics. The vent stream may also comprise entrained ethanol, which may also be recovered.

Abstract:

A process is provided for preparing a three dimensional object such as a mandrel for forming envelopes for mammary prostheses or other implantable medical device by dipping the mandrel, etc. The envelopes are provided with micropillars on the exterior surface which resembles the mandrel surface in negative relief. According to the process a workpiece of solid stock material such as polymer is provided in the shape of the desired prostheses. It is positioned for rotation on a supporting shaft or other holding mechanism. A pulsing laser beam, directed at the workpiece is moved in a plane parallel to the axis of rotation of the workpiece while the beam is maintained approximately perpendicular to the workpiece surface. The rate of pulsing of the laser beam and the speed of rotation of the workpiece are controlled to produce patterns of blind micro-holes onthe surface of the workpiece. A noncircular pattern can be produced by oscillating the beam toward and away from the axis of rotation with each revolution of the workpiece.
