Abstract:

This invention relates to a method for producing a smooth continuous and adherent pressure bonded or cold welded layer of a metal containing composite on a base or target material through the driving force of a pulsed laser. The method includes the steps of selecting a laser transparent substrate, applying thereto a thin laser absorptive polymeric film characterized by a high optical coefficient of absorption to the wavelength of said laser, applying the metal containing composite to the absorptive polymeric film, and placing the base or target material in close proximity to said composite. The composite is a multilayered composite comprising laser absorptive polymer, gold, nickel and gold-flash, and the pulsed laser energy is directed through the transparent substrate toward said composite and is absorbed by the polymeric film causing heating and vaporization thereof while leaving portions of the polymeric film unvaporized. The vaporization provides the necessary pressure to blowoff the unvaporized portions of the absorptive polymeric film so as to propel the composite onto the base or target material.

Abstract:

The compound ortho-methoxyaniline (o-anisidine) can be polymerized by both chemical and electrochemical means to produce polyanisidine, a soluble polymer of high electrical conductivity. Also called poly-o-methoxyaniline or PANIS, polyanisidine can be further blended with various other polymers enabling construction of devices with desirable electrical, optical and physical properties. Oxidative polymerization yields have been increased to 47 percent with no apparent loss in electrical conductivity. PANIS has been blended with polystyrene, polyacrylonitrile, polyethylene oxide and poly(trimethyl hexamethylene terephthalamide) (nylon) to form free-standing, stable, flexible films and fibers having electrical resistance values dependent upon the concentration of PANIS. The applicability of PANIS technology has been demonstrated with the construction of three devices: a switching device that will change color upon the application of positive and negative voltages, an inert polymer electrode, and an electromagnetically shielded connector.

Abstract:

The process for dyeing a continuous polymeric flexible substrate such as a film, uses a strip of transfer paper having sublimable dyes deposited on one surface. The substrate and transfer paper are fed simultaneously into a heat transfer apparatus comprised of a heating means and substrate retaining means. The layers are fed into the apparatus so the uncoated side of the transfer paper is proximate the heating means and substrate is proximate the retaining means. The layers are held against the heating means while sufficient heat is applied to the transfer paper to cause the dye to sublime from the paper and diffuse into the intertices of the substrate.

This invention is directed to an electrically conductive gel comprising an extrinsically conductive gel having dispersed therein a quantity of an intrinsically conductive polymer, where said polymer is present in the amount of between about 0. 03 to 1. 6%, by weight. Preferred conductive polymers are those selected from the class of polypyrrole, polyaniline, polyanisidine, polythiophene, and derivatives of these base polymers.
