Abstract:

A snow removal or ground-surface cleaning apparatus that is pushed or pulled by a prime mover. The apparatus has a drum array that includes rows of triple-stepped blade-like fingers distributed evenly around a drum array. These fingers are stiffly flexible and can cleanly and efficiently pick up snow and debris from uneven ground surfaces.

Abstract:

An ice scruffing device for scruffing a covering of ice on a ground surface to improve the ability of the ice to retain de-icing chemicals on its surface. Paddles are mounted radially about a drum that is mounted substantially parallel to the ground surface and transverse to the direction of travel of a prime mover of the ice scruffing device. Each paddle bears a plurality of impactors. The impactors are made of flexible wire cable, with a strike element arranged at the end of the cable. As the drum rotates, the strike elements strike the ice on the ground surface at high velocity, thereby creating random, discrete indentations, cracks, pit-marks in the surface.

A method of and system for liquefying snow. The system includes a rotor-stator device mounted within a melting reservoir and having a slotted rotor and a slotted stator. Snow and/or ice is deposited in a water bath in the melting reservoir. The rotor rotates at high speed, hurling particles of crystalline snow from the tips of the rotor slots onto the perpendicular faces of the stator, thereby fracturing the crystals and promoting liquefication. The high mechanical forces generated during operation of the rotor-stator device also contribute a significant amount of heat that is applied directly to the snow. The system also includes ancillary assemblies, such as heat-exchangers and snow-transport means. The system is operable as a stationary unit or a mobile unit.

Abstract:

A snow removal device that picks up snow from the ground and flicks the snow into impeller units that transport the snow into a discharge tube whence the snow is expelled from the system. The system primarily includes a pick-up assembly, an impeller assembly, and a discharge tube. The pick-up assembly has a drum array that includes rows of triple-stepped blade-like fingers distributed evenly around each drum of the array of drums. These fingers are stiffly flexible and can cleanly and efficiently pick up snow from uneven ground surfaces and flick the snow into the impeller assembly that is mounted parallel to the axis of the drum array. The impeller assembly includes a plurality of impeller units that transport the snow into the discharge tube. The impeller units are reversible in direction, allowing the snow to be discharged to the right or the left of the system, or to the right and left simultaneously. The discharge tube and the impeller assembly lie in the same plane and are tilted upward approximately 20. degree.

Abstract:

A waste water treatment method and system including a recirculating treatment zone and a filter/treatment zone. The recirculating zone has a treatment medium that includes aerobic microbes and small beads that create interstices within, and extensive surface area on, which active microbes dwell and through which dead microbes and treated water are permitted to easily pass. The filter/treatment zone has a filter/treatment medium that includes peat and small beads that create interstices through which filtered water is permitted to pass. The recirculating treatment zone is designed to be coupled to a settling unit, such as a septic tank. The filter/treatment zone may be coupled to a leach field, with ultraviolet disinfection for coupling to a secondary water user, a soak hose system, etc. The present invention is sufficiently effective so as to reduce to desirable levels the TSS, BOD, E-Coli, nitrogen-containing compounds, phosphorus-containing compounds, and bacteria of waste water in a manner that is cost-effective and that permits water recycling for many applications.
