Abstract:

A system and method for receiving and storing location information and providing navigational information to facilitate travel to a desired location is disclosed. Geographic location information is entered into the system, and a two dimensional representation of information, or glyph, is output that contains navigational information. For example, longitude and latitude information for a delivery address can be translated into a bar code. The bar code can be scanned by a portable bar code reader by a delivery person for the secure transfer of delivery address information.

Abstract:

According to the present invention, methods and apparatus are provided to generate notification about condition changes behind a vehicle. Information about a first set of conditions behind a vehicle is gathered at a first point in time. Information can be gathered using imaging devices, infrared detectors, distance meters, light intensity sensors, and timing devices. At a later point in time, information about a second set of conditions behind the vehicle is gathered. The information gathered at a first point in time is compared to the information gathered at the later point in time to determine differences between the conditions behind the vehicle. If the differences meet a notification criterion, a notification is generated conveying information about the changed conditions behind the vehicle.

Abstract:

A wireless system for brain monitoring/mapping of neurological-disorder patients includes a plurality of electrodes each configured for surface abutment of brain tissue and main circuitry for placement outside a body of a patient and configured to transmit power at radio frequencies and send and receive data using infrared energy. Remote circuitry is provided for subcutaneous implantation in a head of the patient. The remote circuitry is connected to the plurality of electrodes and includes a multiplexer sampling signals from the plurality of electrodes. The multiplexer outputs electrode signals to an amplifier and A/D converter for transmission to the main circuitry. The remote circuitry is configured to (a) receive transmitted power at radio frequencies from the main circuitry, (b) capture and digitize full-bandwidth EEG signals from each of the electrodes, and (c) send data to and receive data from the main circuitry using infrared energy.

Abstract:

Methods of and apparatus for coating the glass envelope and predetermined portions of the end caps of a fluorescent lamp with a coating of polymeric material including securing the end caps against displacement, subsequently, preheating the glass envelope and the predetermined portion of the end caps to a first predetermined temperature above the melting point of the polymeric material for a predetermined amount of time; subsequently, masking the electrical connecting pins and all of the end caps except the predetermined portion thereof; subsequently, exposing the glass envelope and the predetermined portion of the end caps to a fluidized bed of powder of the polymeric material for a predetermined amount of time to apply a coating of the powder to the glass envelope and to the predetermined portion of the end caps; subsequently, reheating the glass envelope and the predetermined portion of the end caps to a predetermined temperature above the melting point of the polymeric material and for a predetermined amount of time to melt and fuse the powder on the glass envelope and the predetermined portion of the end caps to form the applied powder into a substantially uniform thick coating of polymeric material and; subsequently, unmasking the pins and the end caps and unsecuring the end caps. Additionally, the glass envelope and the predetermined portion of the end caps may be cooled after reheating to a predetermined temperature and for a predetermined amount of time to quench and clarify the coating of polymeric material. Additionally, the temperature of the fluidized bed may be controlled to provide more uniform coating and pressurized air may be supplied to surround the connecting pins during coating to further prevent coating of the pins.

Abstract:

A time domain reflectometry (TDR) impedance sensor is provided for measuring body impedance along a lead or catheter implanted in a patient's cardiovascular system. The TDR sensor applies an electrical stimulus to the lead and measures reflections echoed from impedance variations along and distal to the lead, which are superimposed on the applied stimulus. The measured signals may be analyzed with respect to time-of-flight and distance along the lead to detect a plurality of physiologically meaningful signals.
