    6400965, Jun 4, 2002
  • Filed:
    Jul 13, 1999
  • Appl. No.:
    09/351805
  • Inventors:
John Charles Phillips - New Hill NC
James Calvin Peele - Raleigh NC
  • Assignee:
Ericsson Inc. - Research Triangle Park NC
  • International Classification:
    H04Q 720
  • US Classification:
    455558, 37935701, 235241
  • Abstract:
An improved SIM card reader with at least one reader data contact that is connected, typically through a control unit, to a memory, through which reader data contact predetermined software update data may be transmitted for storage in the memory of a mobile telecommunication device. The SIM card reader may be integral to the mobile communication device. In a preferred embodiment, the SIM card reader receives an improved SIM card having a card data contact that cooperatively engages with the reader data contact to electrically couple the reader data contact and the card data contact, thereby to provide a data path through which software update data may be transmitted for storage in the memory of a mobile telecommunication device. The at least one reader data contact may be used to âflashâ the memory of a mobile telecommunication device with software updates, for instance. Additional reader data contacts may be implemented for testing functions, such as, for instance, Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI), transmission power confirmation, VCO Frequency confirmation, and power level.
  • Methods Of Charging Batteries Including Receiving A Magnetic Force In A Mon-Galvanic Manner And Related Devices And Charges

    view source
  • US Patent:
    6603284, Aug 5, 2003
  • Filed:
    Jul 16, 2001
  • Appl. No.:
    09/906953
  • Inventors:
James Calvin Peele - Raleigh NC
  • Assignee:
Ericsson Inc. - Research Triangle Park NC
  • International Classification:
    H01M 1046
  • US Classification:
    320107
  • Abstract:
An electric charging system includes an electrical charger that generates a magnetic force and a device with an electric current generator that receives a portion of the magnetic force in a non-galvanic manner. The electric current generator generates an electric current in response to receiving the portion of the magnetic force and the electric current is received by a battery.
  • Communication Devices, Methods, And Computer Program Products For Establishing Concurrent Calls On A Single Tdma Carrier Frequency

    view source
  • US Patent:
    6763015, Jul 13, 2004
  • Filed:
    Jan 12, 2000
  • Appl. No.:
    09/481354
  • Inventors:
John C. Phillips - New Hill NC
James C. Peele - Raleigh NC
  • Assignee:
Ericsson Inc. - Research Triangle Park NC
  • International Classification:
    H04B 7212
  • US Classification:
    370347, 370282, 370336, 370353
  • Abstract:
Communication devices, methods, and computer program products acquire a first time division multiple access (TDMA) time slot on a TDMA carrier frequency to establish a first call and acquire a second TDMA time slot on the TDMA carrier frequency to establish a second call. The first and second time slots are associated with a single TDMA frame, which may allow, for example, a voice call and a data call to be established concurrently. Accordingly, the need for multiple phones to maintain both a voice connection and an Internet connection concurrently on a TDMA network may be obviated. Inasmuch as the two time slots are on the same TDMA carrier frequency, additional frequency synthesizers or tuning of existing frequency synthesizers may not be required.
  • Dynamic Channel Allocation In A Sectored Cell Of A Cellular Communication System

    view source
  • US Patent:
    6898431, May 24, 2005
  • Filed:
    May 24, 1999
  • Appl. No.:
    09/317480
  • Inventors:
James Calvin Peele - Raleigh NC, US
  • Assignee:
Ericsson Inc. - Research Triangle Park NC
  • International Classification:
    H04Q007/20
    H04B001/38
    H04M001/00
  • US Classification:
    455453, 455450, 4554521, 4554522, 4555621
  • Abstract:
In a sectored cell of a cellular communication network, channels are dynamically reassigned from a first sector in the cell to a second sector in the same cell when the loading in the first sector reaches a predetermined threshold. The channels allocated to the cell are further subdivided into subgroups and assigned initially to respective sectors in the cell. During normal operation, the channels in each sector are allocated to users in that sector in the usual manner. When the number of channels allocated in a first sector of the cell reaches a predetermined threshold, the base station controller polls the remaining sectors for unused channels. If an unused channel is found, that channel may be reassigned to the first sector. In one embodiment, the base station controller polls the controller in the nearest co-channel cells before reassigning the channel to prevent co-channel interference.

  • Multi-Rate Charger With Auto Reset

    view source
  • US Patent:
    59864338, Nov 16, 1999
  • Filed:
    Oct 30, 1998
  • Appl. No.:
    9/183401
  • Inventors:
James C. Peele - Raleigh NC
Ivan N. Wakefield - Cary NC
  • Assignee:
Ericsson, Inc. - Research Triangle Park NC
  • International Classification:
    H01M 1044
    H01M 1046
  • US Classification:
    320125
  • Abstract:
A multi-rate charging circuit includes charging electronics adapted to condition power received from a power source according to operational settings for one or more charge parameters. A plurality of user-selectable charge sets each include settings for one or more of the charge parameters and one of the charge sets is designated as the current default charge set. The charging electronics assume the settings of the default charge set upon power-up, thereafter the user may select an alternative charge set if so desired. A trigger monitor, such as a current level sensor, monitors for the occurrence of a trigger event, such as low current flow associated with the removal of a battery pack, and generates a reset signal in response thereto. The reset signal causes the charging electronics to automatically assume the settings represented by the current default charge set for its operational settings. Thus, upon the occurrence of a triggering event, the charging electronics reverts to (or continues, as appropriate) the default charge set settings.
