    Nov 13, 1998
  • Appl. No.:
    09/190866
  • Inventors:
Martin Charles Flautt - Granville OH
James Robert Priest - Nashport OH
David V. Stotler - Newark OH
Thomas P. Hager - Westerville OH
  • Assignee:
Owens Corning Fiberglas Technology, Inc. - Summit IL
  • International Classification:
    C08L10114
  • US Classification:
    524500, 524507, 524513, 524522, 524555, 524556, 525123, 525185
  • Abstract:
A coating composition for forming a water-resistant coating on fiber-reinforced articles such as rods or cables. The composition comprises an aqueous solution of a superabsorbent water-soluble polymer, a viscosity modifying agent, and optionally a lubricant. the coating formed by applying the composition effectively prevents the treated surface from water-permeation damage by absorbing water that contacts the layer containing the superabsorbent component.
  • Premises Cable With Fiberglass Reinforcement

    view source
  • US Patent:
    6519397, Feb 11, 2003
  • Filed:
    Jun 1, 2001
  • Appl. No.:
    09/873137
  • Inventors:
James R. Priest - Nashport OH
Richard N. Lehman - Newark OH
  • Assignee:
Owens Corning Fiberglas Technology, Inc. - Summit IL
  • International Classification:
    G02B 644
  • US Classification:
    385109
  • Abstract:
A premises cable having a plurality of inorganic fibers for protecting and suspending a plurality of optical fibers within a polymer jacket. The inorganic fibers, preferably glass fibers, do not generate smoke or fire and thus offer an improvement over traditional polyaramid fibers used as reinforcement materials in premises cables. A sizing composition is applied to the inorganic fibers to prevent ribbonization of the inorganic fibers, thereby preventing attenuation of the optical fibers caused by such a ribbonization and also allowing a uniform distribution of glass fibers around the optical fibers to further protect the optical fibers.
  • Polyester Resin String Binder

    view source
  • US Patent:
    6849331, Feb 1, 2005
  • Filed:
    Nov 22, 2000
  • Appl. No.:
    09/721356
  • Inventors:
Martin C. Flautt - Granville OH, US
James R. Priest - Nashport OH, US
  • Assignee:
Owens Corning Fiberglas Technology, Inc. - Summit IL
  • International Classification:
    D02G 300
  • US Classification:
    428375, 428364, 428378, 428392, 428395
  • Abstract:
A string binder is disclosed which is useful for making reinforcing articles for use in the manufacture of molded composite articles. The string binder comprises a fibrous substrate with chemical treatment, applied thereto, comprising a polyester resin, a curing agent, a film former, and a thickener. Additionally, the string binder may be co-roved with one or more ends of a separate fibrous pre-form material to make a product suitable for use in various molding applications.
  • High-Speed Fiber Feed Assembly

    view source
  • US Patent:
    6869004, Mar 22, 2005
  • Filed:
    Jul 16, 2002
  • Appl. No.:
    10/196492
  • Inventors:
James R. Priest - Nashport OH, US
Frederick R. Vees - New Braunfels TX, US
Christopher S. Garrett - Seguin TX, US
David V. Stotler - Newark OH, US
  • Assignee:
Neptco JV LLC - Pawtucket RI
  • International Classification:
    B65H023/08
  • US Classification:
    226195
  • Abstract:
The fiber feed assembly includes one or more dampening bars arranged between a fiber source and an intake assembly that guides the fiber into an elongated feed tube through which the fiber is transferred for additional processing. The spacing and orientation of the dampening bar(s) relative to both the fiber source and the intake assembly may adjusted to control the fiber tension and remove fiber loops before the fiber enters the feed tube to reduce fiber breakage and machine downtime.
  • Low Cost, High Performance, Rodent Resistant, Flexible Reinforcement For Communications Cable
