Abstract:
A fuel filter comprises of a adapter and a filter element within a can. The adapter provides a series of valves which are opened and closed by the attachment and detachment of the filter, thereby preventing spillage from the fuel pump when the filter is removed for replacement.

Abstract:
An improved vapor recovery system for use in a fuel dispensing arrangement is disclosed employing two concentrically arranged hoses. The inner hose includes a turbine disposed therein which rotates in response to fuel flowing therethrough. The outer hose includes a turbine which is preferably magnetically coupled to the turbine included within the inner hose. Rotation of the turbine in the inner hose causes rotation of the turbine in the outer hose and rotation of the turbine in the outer hose creates a vacuum which recovers vapors from the fuel being dispensed.

Abstract:
An improved technique for providing electrical power to a fuel dispensing nozzle is disclosed. A plurality of conductive bands are installed around a cylindrical member, and conductive plungers and the fuel dispensing nozzle make contact with the conductive bands. As the fuel dispensing hose is twisted with respect to the nozzle, the conductive bands rotate but nonetheless remain in contact with the conductive plungers, thereby providing uninterrupted power to any desired electronics installed within the fuel dispensing nozzle.

Abstract:
An improved technique for providing electrical power to a fuel dispensing nozzle is disclosed. A fuel dispensing hose is provided with a fluid pathway, a vapor pathway and conductive elements are provided in the vapor pathway for transmitting intrinsically safe electric signals from a fluid dispenser to the fuel dispensing nozzle. A plurality of conductive bands are installed around a portion of the hose, and a plurality of conductive plungers in the fuel dispensing nozzle make contact with the conductive bands. As the fuel dispensing hose is twisted with respect to the nozzle, the conductive bands rotate but nonetheless remain in contact with the conductive plungers, thereby providing uninterrupted electric signals to any desired electronics installed within the fuel dispensing nozzle. On the other end of the hose, a substrate having conductive elements disposed thereon engage an aperture in the input output port of the fuel dispenser. This fragile contact is protected by stabilization bars on the hose that fit into channels of the input output port.

Abstract:
An improved apparatus for dispensing fuel and the like is disclosed including a display unit and a data processing system. Flow of fuel is montitored and the information relating to amount, price, etc. , may be displayed on a display unit mounted directly on the nozzle. The moving mechanical parts such as the valve are readily separable from the outer handle of the nozzle so that if a customer inadvertently drives a vehicle away with the nozzle still inserted in the gasoline tank, the costly mechanical components of the valve are retained at the gasoline service station.

Abstract:
A fuel dispensing nozzle including three calculated break points is provided. The first break point is provided in the spout which is calculated to fracture upon application of a force orthogonal to the axial direction of the spout. The nozzle comprises a housing having at least one opening for a dispensing valve to be selectively removably received within. A coupling or maintaining member is provided for maintaining the dispensing valve within the housing. The maintaining member is adapted to withstand application of a pre-determined force tending to separate the dispensing valve from the housing. The maintaining member allows separation of the housing and dispensing valve when the pre-determined force is exceeded. This maintaining member is the second break point. The third breakaway feature is provided in the construction of the housing which is designed to fracture prior to fracture of the gas pump or hose if the first or second break points do not fracture.
