  • International Classification:
    E05F 1134
    E05F 1140
  • US Classification:
    49362
  • Abstract:
A garage door operator is disclosed to have a front coupling for a threaded screw of the operator and the rotor of the motor. The coupling includes a first coupling device that is a unitary coupling member with opposing recesses for receiving each of the rotor shaft and an end portion of the screw. The unitary coupling member thereby connects the screw to the motor for torque transmission from the motor. The second coupling device includes a thrust containment device that is supported on the screw, and an intermediate assembly disposed between the thrust containment device and an end portion of the guide rail of the door operator. A retainer component of the intermediate assembly restricts expansion of the thrust containment device.

  • US Patent:
    59276908, Jul 27, 1999
  • Filed:
    May 16, 1997
  • Appl. No.:
    8/857869
  • Inventors:
James A. White - Louisville OH
    Nicholas Dragomir - Alliance OH
    James Stottsberry - Massillon OH
  • Assignee:
Overhead Door Corporation - Dallas TX
  • International Classification:
    B66D 112
    B66D 114
  • US Classification:
    254343
  • Abstract:
A push-pull chain garage door operator system includes a drive module and an elongated guide rail for a push-pull chain connected to a carriage assembly mounted on the guide rail. The chain is engaged with a sprocket mounted on a generally rectangular plate-like molded plastic support member which includes a serpentine idle chain storage slot formed therein. The support member is releasably connected to a stamped metal frame plate for covering the storage slot and supporting the drive module. The bottomwall of the support member supports a right angle speed reduction drive unit connected to a drive motor retained in a cradle formed by an integral boss on the support member. The motor and a starting capacitor therefor are retained in respective cradle portions of the boss by a removable retaining strap. A control circuit board is mounted on the underside of the support member and a two-part shroud for the operator mechanism is releasably secured to the frame plate.

  • US Patent:
    50850946, Feb 4, 1992
  • Filed:
    Nov 8, 1990
  • Appl. No.:
    7/610523
  • Inventors:
Charles W. Clawson - Alliance OH
James W. Stottsberry - Massillon OH
  • Assignee:
GMI Holdings, Inc. - Alliance OH
  • International Classification:
    F16H 2520
    E05F 1100
    B23Q 300
  • US Classification:
    744246
  • Abstract:
A screw and guide rail coupling assembly is for a garage door operator. The garage door operator has a motor-driven rotatable screw at least partially within a nonrotatable guide rail and a slide guided by the guide rail and movable longitudinally therealong by engagement with the screw and connectable to open and close the garage door. The screw is in at least first and second screw parts, and a screw coupling is adapted to interconnect adjacent ends of the first and second screw parts. The guide rail is in at least first and second guide parts, and a guide coupling adapted to interconnect adjacent ends of the first and second guide parts. The screw coupling is longitudinally spaced or offset from the guide coupling wherein the screw coupling is completely contained and supported within one of said first and second guide parts. The offset provides a significant increase in the maximum torque of the screw and guide rail coupling assembly.
