Abstract:
A new class of lipopeptides has been surprisingly discovered from mammalian serum that are potent immunoregulators, hereinafter, referred to as Immune Cell Potentiating Factors (“ICPF”s). The clinical and laboratory data show a wide range of prophylactic and therapeutic applications for the ICPFs including primary and adjunctive therapy in the treatment of diseases of both bacterial and viral origin as well as certain neoplastic diseases. Described herein are chemical structures of ICPF of the invention, the likely mode of action, and the surprisingly broad spectrum of therapeutic efficacy and wide margin of safety to the host species.
Peptide and peptides that may be covalently linked to a lipid and methods of using such peptides and lipopeptides to prevent or treat disease are disclosed herein.
Rapid Methods For Microbial Typing And Enumeration
The invention relates to kits and methods for the sensitive and rapid typing and enumeration of microorganisms in a sample. The basic method comprises adhering specific capture-antibodies to a solid support, to bind to microorganisms specific for the antibody, and adding primary antibodies specific to a viability marker of the microorganisms. This is followed by the addition of secondary antibodies that may be conjugated to a reporter molecule. Preferably the reporter function involves light and the detectable marker is aequorin and the need for a second antibody is overcome. The invention is useful for the detection of a number of different microorganisms including bacteria, fungi and protozoan of a variety of species.
Methods For The Rapid Detection Of Actively Respiring Microorganism
The invention relates to methods for the rapid detection, including quantitative detection, of actively respiring microorganisms. One embodiment comprises the steps of amplifying the presence of microorganisms utilizing microbial enzymatic conversion of tetrazolium salts to formazan products, detecting the presence of formazan product utilizing specific antibodies raised to formazans and amplifying the presence of the primary antibody with a secondary antibody conjugated to a detectable marker. Another embodiment of the invention comprises the steps of amplifying the microorganisms utilizing microbial enzymatic conversion of tetrazolium salts to formazan products, capturing digested microbial cell fragments with immobilized primary antibodies specific to the formazans and amplifying the presence of captured cell fragments with reporter antibodies prepared from the primary antibodies conjugated to a detectable marker. Another embodiment of the invention comprises the steps of amplifying microorganisms utilizing microbial enzymatic conversion of tetrazolium salt to formazan products, capturing digested microbial cell fragments on primary antibodies immobilized onto a solid sensor support and detecting the presence of captured cell fragments by the measurement of a change in either the physical, chemical electrical or optical properties of the sensor material.
Peptide and peptides that may be covalently linked to a lipid and methods of using such peptides and lipopeptides to prevent or treat disease are disclosed herein.
Immunologically Active Lipopeptides And Methods For Use Thereof
The present invention relates to the isolation and structure elucidation of 1-peptidyl-2-arachidonoyl-3-stearoyl glyceride (pDAG) as an active chemical entity in the caprine serum fraction, and the discovery of the innate immune modulating activity of pDAG as an endogenous damage associated molecular pattern
