Abstract:

A stack allocation system and method is described. In one implementation, an attempt is made to allocate N bytes of data to a stack having a fixed depth. A probe size for the stack is determined. Verification is then made to ascertain whether the probe size and the N bytes of data exceed the fixed depth of the stack, prior to allocating the N bytes of data to the stack. In another implementation, the N bytes of data are allocated to a heap; if the probe size and the N bytes of data exceed the fixed depth of the stack.

Abstract:

Thread usage is managed when locking resources during the possibly-contentious accessing of such resources. In a described implementation, a thread that is executing a corresponding access request is not suspended when its corresponding access request is delayed because a targeted resource is currently locked for accessing by another thread. Instead, when a targeted resource is locked, the blocked access request is queued up in a queue of access requests. The corresponding thread is then permitted to perform other work. When the resource is subsequently unlocked and thus becomes available, an access request (e. g. , the oldest or highest priority access request) that is queued is retrieved, and a thread is allowed to execute it. Implementations for general locking access schemes, for read/write-bifurcated locking access schemes, etc. are described.

A database development system is provided. The system includes a current-state source representation of a database that can be captured in a model of the database and a metadata component that preserves user intentions describing when a user interacts with the system to perform a refactoring operation (or other code enhancement) for use in subsequent operations by the system. Abstract:

Various technologies and techniques are disclosed for creating and managing extensions. An extension manager is operable to interact with and manage extensions in at least two categories, such as operative extensions and cooperative extensions. The extension manager loads zero or more extensions from a first set of extensions into a host application. The extension manager loads zero or more extensions from a second set of extensions into the host application based upon an analysis of one or more declarations of compatibility. An extension manager framework is described that has a language syntax for describing the operation of extensions. The language syntax enables a cooperative extension to declare compatibility with operative extensions, so that the cooperative extension is only loaded into a host application in situations where the cooperative extension has been pre-defined as being compatible. A process for loading extensions in a host application using declarations of compatibility is described.

The present invention extends to methods, systems, and computer program products for partitioning online databases. Online database operations, such as, for example, SPLIT, MERGE, and DROP, are used to alter the arrangement of partitions in a federated database. A SPLIT operation splits rows at one partition across a plurality of other partitions. A MERGE operation merges rows at a plurality of partitions in to one partition. A DROP operation shifts responsibility for rows of data from one partition to another partition and then drops the rows from the one partition.

The present invention extends to methods, systems, and computer program products for scoping the context used to access a database partition. Embodiments of the invention enable data isolation using partitions in multi-tenant databases, while relieving client applications from dealing with the partitions. For example, a computer system that includes a distributed database system comprising a plurality of database partitions in a federation receives a context to use when performing database access operations within the distributed database system. The context identifies specified relevant portion of the federation. The computer system also receives a database access operation that is associated with the context. The computer system modifies the semantics of the database access operation in accordance with the associated context, to direct application of the database access operation to the specified relevant portion of the federation.

The subject disclosure relates to one or more computer-implemented processes for collecting, analyzing, and employing annotations of data sources. In particular, an annotation component is configured to receive annotations of data for a data source, wherein the respective annotations comprise different associations of a global terms with the data of the data source, a data store configured to store the annotations, and an interface component configured to render the data based on the annotations in response to a request for the data. The subject disclosure relates to techniques for referencing a change in data utilizing a network resource locator. An interface component can receive one or more requests that are associated with a data set from a client, and send, based on the one or more requests, a network resource locator and at least one portion of the data set to the client.
