Abstract:

A system for providing alerts of neurological events occurring in a human subject is provided. The system includes: a monitoring module adapted to detect and sample a neurological signal; an event detection module coupled to the monitoring module for detecting one or more types of predetermined reportable events based on the detected neurological signal; and an alert module coupled to the event detection module, wherein upon the detection of a reportable event by the event detection module, said alert module selects a first alert contact from a plurality of contacts contained in a contact list, and generates a first alert communication to the first alert contact.

Abstract:

A device, apparatus and method for trapping metal ions and detecting metal ion contamination in a solution provide a semiconductor device formed on a semiconductor substrate and including an N-well formed over a P-type substrate and at least a contact portion of the N-well in electrical contact with the solution. When the semiconductor device is optically illuminated, a P/N junction is formed as a result of photovoltaic phenomena. Metal ions from the solution migrate to the contact area due to the voltage created at the P/N junction. The semiconductor device includes a conductive structure with conductive features separated by a gap and therefore in an initially electrically open state. When the ions migrate to the contact area, they precipitate, at least partially bridging the gap and creating conductance through the conductive structure. The conductance may be measured to determine the amount of metal ion contamination.

Abstract:

Techniques for amplifying a plurality of input voltages to generate a corresponding plurality of output voltages. In an exemplary embodiment, each of the plurality of input voltages is referenced to a common voltage comprising the average of the plurality of input voltages, without the need to reference an independently provided common voltage. In an alternative exemplary embodiment, techniques are provided for automatically measuring the input impedance between any two nodes corresponding to the plurality of input voltages. Further techniques are provided for coupling input nodes of the amplifier modules to a common reference voltage, and to the housing of the apparatus.

Abstract:

A haptic skull cap provides different types of haptic feedback to a user, which can be advantageous for providing a more immersive virtual reality experience. The haptic skull cap includes a fabric cap worn by a user. Physically attached to the fabric cap is a linear actuator that provides a focal impact to a user's forehead. Additionally, vibrational motors are physically attached to the fabric cap, where each vibration motor provides vibrational feedback to a different location of the user's head. The haptic skull cap can be worn by a user in conjunction with a head mounted display. Therefore, each type of haptic feedback provided by the haptic skull cap can be synchronized with the visual data stream provided by the head mounted display which further enhances the overall virtual reality experience for a user.

Abstract:

A method is performed in a virtual-reality system that includes a head-mounted display (HMD), a camera, and a hand-held controller having a plurality of illumination sources to provide light that is detectable by the camera. The method includes displaying, on the HMD, an image of a hand and using the camera to detect movement of the hand-held controller by tracking positions of respective illumination sources of the plurality of illumination sources. The method further includes displaying, on the HMD, motion of the image of the hand corresponding to the detected movement.
