Abstract:

Various embodiments proactively monitor and efficiently manage resource usage of individual tabs. In at least some embodiments, one or more tabs can be dehydrated in accordance with various operational parameters, and rehydrated when a user actually activates a particular tab. In at least some embodiments, rehydration can occur on a tab-by-tab basis, while at least some tabs remain dehydrated. Dehydrated tabs can, in some embodiments, be visually presented to a user in a manner in which normal, active tabs are presented.

Abstract:

Techniques for modes for applications are described. In one or more implementations, multiple operational modes are provided for an application. The operational modes can be associated with different resource access permissions, trust statuses, graphical user interfaces, and so on. An application can be launched in a particular one of the operational modes based on a context in which a request to launch the application is received. In one or more implementations, correlations between launch request contexts for an application and operational modes can be configured to enable different launch requests to cause an application to launch into different operational modes.

Abstract:

Techniques and constructs for media composition using aggregate overlay layers. For instance, a media compositor receives a media source and at least two media overlays, where each of the at least two media overlays are to be composed with the media source. The media compositor then generates an output media composition by adding each of the at least two media overlays to the media source in a single processing step. In some examples, the media compositor adds the at least two media overlays to the media source using a preconfigured compositor. In other examples, the media compositor adds the at least two media overlays to the media source using a custom compositor.
